Dendronotus frondosus is characterized by the color pattern of deep dark-brown with white specks and mottles on the dorsum. Dendronotus robilliardi is distinguished by the body of translucent white with milky stripes and orange- brown markings in papillae, and D. robilliardi from Korean water is commonly examined with white dots on the anterior dorsum. Images of external morphology and brief re-descriptions of two species were provided. Further, we confirmed the opinion of Korshunova et al. that the KoreanD. albus image by Koh would be D. robilliardi. ABSTRACT: Species of the genus Dendronotus are among the most common nudibranchs in the northern Hemisphere. However, their distribution and composition in the North-west Pacific remain poorly explored. In the present study, we observed Dendronotus composi- tion in northwestern part of the Sea of Japan, using an integrative approach, included morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses and molecular species delimitation methods. These multiple methods revealed high cryptic diversity within the genus. Two specimens of Dendronotus frondosus were found in Amursky Bay and therefore its amphiboreal status was confirmed. In three locations of the Sea of Japan we found specimens, which are very close externally to D. frondosus, but show significant distance according to molecular analysis. We show that these specimens belong to a new species Dendronotus dudkai sp.n. -

Five new species of sea slugs found in the ocean depths 13 December 2018, by Kim Fulton-Bennett scientists. The new species were described in a paper in Zootaxa written by Ángel Valdés, a researcher at California Polytechnical Institute in Pomona, Lonny Lundsten, a senior research technician at MBARI, and Nerida Wilson, who is affiliated with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Western Australian Museum. Each of these new species of nudibranchs is highlighted in the photos and captions below. Email: [email protected] Abstract. Citizen science initiatives and the data they produce are increasingly common in ecology, conservation and biodiversity monitoring. Although the quality of citizen science data has historically been questioned, biases can be detected and corrected for, allowing these data to become comparable in quality to professionally collected data. Consequently, citizen science is increasingly being integrated with professional science, allowing the collection of data at unprecedented spatial and temporal scales. iNaturalist is one of the most popular biodiversity citizen science platforms globally, with more than 1.4 million users having contributed over 54 million observations. Australia is the top contributing nation in the southern hemisphere, and in the top four contributing nations globally, with over 1.6 million observations of over 36 000 identified species contributed by almost 27 000 users. Despite the platform’s success, there are few holistic syntheses of contributions to iNaturalist, especially for Australia. Here, we outline the history of iNaturalist from an Australian perspective, and summarise, taxonomically, temporally and spatially, Australian biodiversity data contributed to the platform.
