PETER PAN Or the Boy Who Would Not Grow Up
PRESS RELEASE NORTH HIGH SCHOOL to present PETER PAN or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up The Appleton North High School Theatre Department will present the play PETER PAN or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up on May 16th through the 19th in the North High School Auditorium, 5000 North Ballard Road. This new version adapted from the original J.M. Barrie play and novel by Trevor Nunn and John Caird for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre of London enjoyed phenomenal success when first produced. The famous team known for their productions of THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF NICHOLAS NICKLEBY and the musical LES MISERABLES have painstakingly researched and restored Barrie’s original play. “. .a national masterpiece.”—London Times. This is the beloved story of Peter, Wendy, Michael, John, Capt. Hook, Smee, the lost boys, pirates, and the Indians, and of course, Tinker Bell, in their adventures in Never Land. However, for the first time, the play is here restored to Barrie’s original intentions. In the words of adaptor, John Caird: “ We were fascinated to discover that there was no one single document called PETER PAN. What we found was a tantalizing number of different versions, all of them containing some very agreeable surprises….We have made some significant alterations, the greatest of which is the introduction of a new character, the Storyteller, who is in fact the author himself.” North’s theatre director, Ron Parker, states, “This is a very different PETER PAN than the one most people are familiar with. It is neither the popular musical version nor the Disney animated recreation, but goes back to Barrie’s original play and novel. -

THEY ARE BLOWING UP BALLOONS, HAVING BALLOON FIGHTS AS THEY DO SO. TRACY: Bored, bored, bored... WE SEE TRACY ON THE SOFA. SHE’S LYING UPSIDE DOWN, WITH HER FEET STICKING UP OVER THE BACK AND HER HEAD HANGING DOWN OVER THE SEAT. JUSTINE HITS HER OVER THE HEAD WITH A BALLOON. JUSTINE: [SARCASTIC] I’m sure Lol will be really pleased to know you’re so excited about his party. TRACY: It’s not that – it’s just that this is the millionth leaving party I’ve been to, and they’re all the same. Elaine will make some boring speech and I’ll eat too much cake and go to bed feeling sick. CRASH: Come on Tracy, it’s not all doom and gloom. TRACY ROLLS OFF THE SOFA AND GOES OVER TO CRASH, JACKIE AND JUSTINE. TRACY: If you say so. [BEAT] All close your eyes. JACKIE: Why? TRACY: I want to make a wish, and there’s more chance of it working if we all have our eyes shut. Kansas City Repertory Theatre Announces Acclaimed Cast for The Diary of Anne Frank Jan. 29 through Feb. 21, 2016 at newly renovated Spencer Theatre Kansas City, MO (Jan. 5, 2016) – Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s Artistic Director Eric Rosen is pleased to announce the cast of The Diary of Anne Frank, directed by Marissa Wolf, KC Rep’s Director of New Works. The play, based upon Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, was originally written for the stage by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. In 1997, Wendy Kesselman published a revised version of Goodrich and Hackett’s Pulitzer Prize winning script, which integrated some of the more personal aspects of Anne Frank’s story that remained untold in the original script. Peer into the world of a family in hiding and a gifted young writer who came of age during the horrors of the Holocaust. Through Anne’s eyes, we see the prevailing hopes of a girl who – despite everything – inspired generations with her unwavering faith in humanity. This production begins Friday, Jan. 29 and runs through Sunday, Feb. 21 at KC Rep’s newly renovated Spencer Theatre.
