COLLEGE FOOTBALL GREAT TEAMS OF THE PAST 2 SET ROSTER The following players comprise the College Football Great Teams 2 Card Set. The regular starters at each position are listed first and should be used most frequently. Realistic use of the players below will generate statistical results remarkably similar to those from real life. IMPORTANT: When a Red "K" appears in the R-column as the result on any kind of running play from scrimmage or on any return, roll the dice again, refer to the K-column, and use the number there for the result. When a player has a "K" in his R-column, he can never be used for kicking or punting. If the symbol "F-K" or "F-P" appears on a players card, it means that you use the K or P column when he recovers a fumble. Players in bold are starters. If there is a difference between the player's card and the roster sheet, always use the card information. The number in ()s after the player name is the number of cards that the player has in this set. • Detroit's Thanksgiving Day Tradition
DETROIT’S THANKSGIVING DAY TRADITION It was, legend says, a typically colorful, probably chilly, November day in 1622 that Pilgrims and Native Americans celebrated the new world's bounty with a sumptuous feast. They sat together at Plymouth Plantation (they spelled it Plimouth) in Massachusetts, gave thanks for the goodness set before them, then dined on pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes, maize, cranberry sauce, turkey and who knows what else. Actually, fish was just as predominant a staple. And history books say pumpkin pie really debuted a year later. But regardless of the accuracy of the details, that's how Thanksgiving Day is seen by Americans -- except Detroiters. They may have most of the same images as everyone else, but with a new twist that began in 1934. That's when Detroiters and their outstate Michigan compatriots found themselves at the dawn of an unplanned behavior modification, courtesy of George A. "Dick" Richards, owner of the city's new entry in the National Football League: The Detroit Lions. Larry Paladino, Lions Pride, 1993 Four generations of Detroiters have been a proud part of the American celebration of Thanksgiving. The relationship between Detroit and Thanksgiving dates back to 1934 when owner G.A. Richards scheduled a holiday contest between his first-year Lions and the Chicago Bears. Some 75 years later, fans throughout the State of Michigan have transformed an annual holiday event into the single greatest tradition in the history of American professional team sports. Indeed, if football is America’s passion, Thanksgiving football is Detroit’s passion. DETROIT AND THANKSGIVING DAY No other team in professional sports can claim to be as much a part of an American holiday as can the Detroit Lions with Thanksgiving.

  • Gail Cogdill
THE COFFIN CORNER: Vol. 26, No. 2 (2004) Gail Cogdill: Playing Split End for the Lions, Colts, and Falcons in the 1960s By Jim Sargent A master of the clutch reception for long yardage, Gail Cogdill made a career out of spectacular catches in the 1960s. During his eight-plus seasons with Detroit, two of which were shortened due to injuries, Cogdill became one of the greatest of all Lion split ends. While his records have been surpassed in an era where 40 or more passes per game are common, Cogdill made his mark on a team that seldom threw 25 times. An outstanding split end for Detroit when 14-game seasons were the standard (before 1961 the NFL played 12 game seasons) instead of today’s 16 games, he caught 325 passes for 5,221 yards and 28 touchdowns. For his 11-year National Football League career, which he finished with two seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, Cogdill played 127 games, hauled in 356 aerials, gained 5,696 yards, and scored 34 touchdowns. Based on statistics through the 2002 season, Cogdill’s total of 5,221 yards ranks fourth all-time on Detroit’s list for most receiving yards in a career, following three receivers who played mainly in the 1990s, Herman Moore (9,098 yds), Johnnie Morton (5,345 yds), and Brett Perriman 5,244 yds). Gail’s 325 career receptions for the Lions ranks sixth, but only one receiver was his contemporary, Charlie Sanders (336 catches). Known for having great (but small) hands, making excellent fakes, and throwing good blocks, the former track star displayed excellent speed, at least until his knee was injured in 1965.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 24, 2020 TITANS-PACKERS SUPPLEMENTAL NOTES TITANS QUARTET FLIRTING WITH RARE ACCOMPLISHMENT: With two games remaining in the regular season, Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, running back Derrick Henry, and wide receivers Corey Davis and A.J. Brown are on the verge of a rare statistical feat as a foursome. Soon they can make the Titans the NFL’s eighth team with a 3,500-yard passer, a 1,500-yard rusher and a pair of 1,000-yard receivers. Tannehill enters Week 16 with 3,482 passing yards, only 18 yards away from giving the team its fifth individual 3,500-yard passing campaign. Warren Moon reached the mark three times with the Oilers from 1989 to 1991 (3,631 yards, 4,689 yards and 4,690 yards, respectively). Matt Hasselbeck provided the franchise’s only other 3,500-yard passing season in 2011 (3,571). With 1,679 rushing yards, Henry leads the NFL and already has established a career high for rushing yards in a season. His total ranks fourth in team annals behind Chris Johnson’s 2,006 yards in 2009, Earl Campbell’s 1,934 yards in 1980, and Campbell’s 1,697 yards in 1979. Davis, who already has a career-high 945 receiving yards, is 55 yards from 1,000. Brown has 881 receiving yards, putting him 119 yards away from his second consecutive 1,000-yard season to begin his career. If they both hit the mark, they will be the franchise’s first receiving tandem with 1,000 yards in the same season since Drew Bennett (1,247) and Derrick Mason (1,168) in 2004.
