FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 24, 2020 TITANS-PACKERS SUPPLEMENTAL NOTES TITANS QUARTET FLIRTING WITH RARE ACCOMPLISHMENT: With two games remaining in the regular season, Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, running back Derrick Henry, and wide receivers Corey Davis and A.J. Brown are on the verge of a rare statistical feat as a foursome. Soon they can make the Titans the NFL’s eighth team with a 3,500-yard passer, a 1,500-yard rusher and a pair of 1,000-yard receivers. Tannehill enters Week 16 with 3,482 passing yards, only 18 yards away from giving the team its fifth individual 3,500-yard passing campaign. Warren Moon reached the mark three times with the Oilers from 1989 to 1991 (3,631 yards, 4,689 yards and 4,690 yards, respectively). Matt Hasselbeck provided the franchise’s only other 3,500-yard passing season in 2011 (3,571). With 1,679 rushing yards, Henry leads the NFL and already has established a career high for rushing yards in a season. His total ranks fourth in team annals behind Chris Johnson’s 2,006 yards in 2009, Earl Campbell’s 1,934 yards in 1980, and Campbell’s 1,697 yards in 1979. Davis, who already has a career-high 945 receiving yards, is 55 yards from 1,000. Brown has 881 receiving yards, putting him 119 yards away from his second consecutive 1,000-yard season to begin his career. If they both hit the mark, they will be the franchise’s first receiving tandem with 1,000 yards in the same season since Drew Bennett (1,247) and Derrick Mason (1,168) in 2004. The last time an organization simultaneously produced a 3,500-yard passing season, a 1,500-yard rushing season and two 1,000-yard receiving seasons was 2006, when the St. Louis Rams ensemble of Marc Bulger (4,301 passing), Steven Jackson (1,528 rushing), and Isaac Bruce (1,098 receiving) and Torry Holt (1,188 receiving) teamed to do it. Brown (881) * Two games remaining TITANS REACH 20 RUSHING TDs, 30 PASSING TDs: The Titans have scored 55 touchdowns in 2020. The total is good for second place in franchise history behind the 66 touchdowns registered by the 1961 Oilers. The 55 touchdowns scored by the Titans also puts them in a tie with their opponents this week, the Green Bay Packers, for first place in the NFL. The next closest total is owned by the Kansas City Chiefs with 52 total touchdowns. The Titans’ prolific scoring pace is a result of significant production in both the running game and the passing game. They have reached the end zone on 21 occasions on rushing attempts, led by Derrick Henry’s 15 rushing scores. Meanwhile, they have 31 touchdown passes, all by Ryan Tannehill. Since 1960, the Titans are only the sixth NFL squad to have at least 20 rushing touchdowns and 30 passing touchdowns in their first 14 games. The 2018 New Orleans Saints were the most recent team to accomplish the feat prior to the Titans. (continued on next page) The average NFL team in 2020 has 14.4 rushing touchdowns and 23.7 passing touchdowns. The only occasion in team annals in which the Titans/Oilers scored more points was the 513-point season of 1961 (14 games). The Titans are tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the lead in scoring in 2020 with an average of 31.1 points per game. That is also the highest rate ever for the Titans/Oilers other than the 1961 club, which averaged 36.6 points per contest. Separately, the Titans can craft their sixth consecutive game on the road with at least 420 total yards. They would join the 2018 Kansas City Chiefs (six games), the 2014 Philadelphia Eagles (six games) and the 1961–1962 Oilers (eight games) as the only teams who have done it since 1950. After totaling 377 yards at Denver in their Monday night opener (Sept. 14), the Titans have registered at least 420 yards in every road contest they have played, including 454 yards most recently at Jacksonville (Dec. 13). Henry has an active streak of nine consecutive 100-yard rushing games on the road. It is the second-longest streak in NFL history, and Sunday night he could tie Barry Sanders (10) for the longest such streak in history. Additionally, with 127 rushing yards, Henry can join six other players since 1948 who have logged at least 1,000 total rushing yards on the road in a single season. The last player to hit the mark was Adrian Peterson in 2012, and before Peterson it was only Jim Brown (1963), O.J. Simpson (1975), Eric Dickerson (1984), Gerald Riggs (1985) and Sanders (1997) who could claim the achievement. It was the first time in his nine-year NFL career that he had five total touchdowns through the air and on the ground, and he became the team’s first player to do so since Billy Volek on Dec. 19, 2004 at Oakland. Tannehill’s performance against the Lions also improved his season total to 31 passing touchdowns. Only George Blanda (36 in 1961) and Warren Moon (33 in 1990) have had that many in a season. Adding his passing touchdowns to his four rushing touchdowns in 2020, Tannehill’s sum of 35 combined touchdowns in 2020 is tied for second place all- time for the franchise. He needs two more to establish a new record ahead of Blanda’s 36 total touchdowns from 1961 (all passing) and Moon’s 35 from 1990 (33 passing, two rushing).
