FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Five U SPORTS football All-Canadian honours re-awarded for 2018 season February 7, 2019 TORONTO (U SPORTS) – U SPORTS announced Thursday that five football All-Canadian honours have been re-awarded by the national office for the 2018 season. Calgary Dinos receiver Hunter Karl and Laval Rouge et Or cornerback Émile Chênevert have been awarded First Team All-Canadian recognition, while Laval receiver Jonathan Breton- Robert, StFX kick returner Kaion Julien-Grant and Acadia cornerback Garvin Cius have been awarded Second Team All-Canadian status. Karl, a fourth-year arts major, had 47 catches for 937 receiving yards ranking second in the nation, while also adding six receiving touchdowns. In the Canada West playoffs, the Okotoks, Alta., native had 105 yards and a pair of TDs. Chênevert, a third-year medical student had 23.5 tackles, four interceptions and six pass breakups in eight regular season games. In the postseason, the Quebec City native added 10 tackles – eight of which were solo – and one pass breakup, helping the Rouge et Or capture a record 10th Vanier Cup title on their home field. U SPORTS congratulates all five student-athletes on their remarkable accomplishments. The five honours are being handed out retroactively due to doping infractions in the 2018 season. TVA Sports will remain the official broadcaster of the Vanier Cup final as well as the national semifinals, the Uteck and Mitchell Bowls. The deal extends to 2023 inclusively. Homecoming season was a success with lots of energy from the team and alumni coming back home. Guelph's players wanted to right the ship after a narrow defeat last week in Hamilton – and getting a first ever for their new Head Coach was high on the list of priorities. She is currently a Basketball Development Coordinator with More Than Hoops Inc. and facilitates basketball camps and clinics throughout North America and internationally. Emma’s other main area of focus is educating young women as a university women’s basketball coach. Laura Chittle is an educational developer in the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Windsor, Canada. She earned her PhD in Kinesiology, where she was awarded the University of Windsor’s Governor General's Gold Medal. Her research focuses on relative age effects in sport, life span development, student-faculty partnerships, and curriculum development. Sean Horton is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Windsor. His research interests lie primarily in the area of skill acquisition, both in young people and as individuals age. Jess C. Dixon is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Windsor. His primary research and scholarly interests are in sport management and relative age effects in sport.
