RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

THE MINISTRY OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS SIGNAL participates in a joint consortium with researchers from DTU (Technical University of Denmark) and others in a development project, where we will examine the role of user behavior in connection to sustainable energy renovation. The projects aims

to ensure that technical initiatives with regards to sustainable energy are backed up with the appropriate behavior, when taken into use.

PH.D. SIGNAL started a PhD in collaboration with Marianne Stang Våland (previous Director of Learning Lab Denmark). The aim of the PhD project is to develop and describe the added value that takes place for the end user of space when “people, leadership and space” are integrated in the design process. How can space be used as a strategic leadership tool in mergers and facilitating the development of an organization? The Project is embedded at the Center for Management Studies of the Building Process with Professor Kristian Kreiner.

REALDANIA FOUNDATION´

SIGNAL has developed a program for The Optimal Hospice of the Future for the RealDania Foundation, in cooperation with The Danish Cancer Society and Hospice Forum Denmark. The project will be realized via a series of specific building projects, where SIGNAL is the RealDania’s representative with regards to the implementation of the program in specific projects that will be built in the period 2006 – 2009

VISIONS FOR THE FUTURE WORKPLACES IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT In September 2005 SIGNAL turned in a development project to the Palaces and Properties Agency – a task that involved describing A Vision for Workplaces in Central Government Year 2015. The development project was undertaken in cooperation with DEGW, an English company that through 30 years have worked internationally with space planning and development with large public and private clients.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND INDOOR CLIMATE IN OFFICES Gitte Andersen takes part in a project based at Danish Building Research Institute regarding “Energy consumption and indoor climate in offices with large room depth”. The main aim of the project is to draw up guidelines for planning and projecting optimal physical frameworks for office environments of the future (New Ways of Working) both in new construction and renovation of existing office buildings. The project aims to establish the best possible conditions with relation to indoor climate to promote the users well-being and productivity while minimising energy consumption for lighting, ventilation and cooling. The project is specifically aimed at contemporary new office concepts.

SJÆLSØ GRUPPEN – CONCEPT FOR WORLD TRADE CENTER IN ØRESTAD Idea sketches for common areas and rental types, as well as concepts for establishment of World Trade Centre in Ørestad. In cooperation with Utzon architects that are responsible for architecture and building concept.

SOFIEFONDEN – MODEL PROGRAMME FOR SENIOR RESIDENCES FOR PEOPLE WITH AUTISM Development of a model programme for Sofiefonden, regarding future senior residences for people with autism. The model programme contains recommendations, guidelines and principles on how senior residences for people with autism are organized and built.

MARITA CENTRET SIGNAL donated an idea proposal for a new activity house to the Marita Centre – a residence for young people with psychosocial and addiction problems. Based on user involvement of both employees and users SIGNAL worked out proposals for interior design and concrete ideas on future options for establishment of social and professional joint facilities encouraging life quality for the young people.

BYGNINGSKULTUR DANMARK – A NATIONAL KNOWLEDGE-, CONSULTANCY- AND NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION FOR BUILDING CULTURE Through a leader and employee involved process SIGNAL uncovered new collaboration forms. Based on this, SIGNAL made an interior design plan for the old and preserved building in Borgergade, making it possible for the organization and its several different professional groups and fields of interest to benefit of interdisciplinary collaboration on a daily basis.

DANNERHUSET Establishment of idea proposal regarding the optimal crisis centre and shelter for women and children of the future with Dannerhuset as a concrete case. The project is being initiated and finances by RealDania. SIGNAL is the process consultant in connection with the establishing analysis of needs in cooperation with employees and volunteers. VIBORG MUNICIPALITY - NEW CITY HALL Through an organizational- and interior design process leaders and employees are prepared for moving into the new City Hall by 2011. The organizational process contains a series of activities that are meant to create comprehension and fertile ground for the changes a new City Hall will bring. The process is structured in cooperation with the Human Resources department of Viborg municipality and is ongoing before, during and after moving in. The arrangement process builds upon held workshops/identification of needs and gathering thereof and combines this with a detailed interior design of the City Hall. A user-involvement process where teachers, students and other staff were invited to concretise a vision for the future – connected to the use of physical space.

UCL- CAMPUS STRATEGY AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PILOT PROJECTS Work out of a campus strategy for the future UCL for all six locations in Odense. The model programme will also describe how the future schools can support learning flexibility and the wellbeing of both children and adults and facilitate many forms of collaboration both internal in the school and between the schools and the surroundings.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE METROPOL Consultancy and design of campus strategy with the purpose to optimize the physical setting and create a better exploitation of the resources of the buildings and an activity based study and learning environment. The campus strategy which springs from the University College’s vision is developed through needs analysis with dialogue, interviews and workshops with students and teachers. Based on the needs analysis scenarios for the physical settings in the future are produced. Development of a series of different future scenarios for the college’s physical space, which will become part of the future campus strategy. NEW CITY HALL IN THE NEW ROSKILDE MUNICIPALITY SIGNAL has in cooperation with MTH and TNT won the competition about a new city hall in New Roskilde Municipality. SIGNAL won because of our core competences within workspace planning and process and space design.

PALACES AND PROPERTIES AGENCY, MINISTRY OF FINANCE Following prequalification, Signal took part in a competition in a consortium with MT Højgaard and TNT further to the Palaces and Properties Agency’s call for tenders for the refitting of Nyrupsgade 34-36 into contemporary and modernised office premises. The consortium invited tenders to include a detailed interior design plan for all working environments on a scale of 1:100.
