The faculty not only transmitted information, they conveyed a passion for plumbing the depths of scriptural truth. In particular, my seminar in biblical theology, taught by Dean Russell Moore and Professors James Hamilton and Brian Payne, helped me to connect the dots of the biblical storyline in new and exciting ways. I am also grateful to the members of Hanover Fellowship Church, where I am proud to serve, for sharing my excitement for biblical theology. They happily participated in the project at hand, believing that our church would become stronger for it. I thank them for the trust and support they have invested in me as their pastor. Most of all, I thank the Lord for giving me my precious wife, Laura, with whom to share my journey. Her love and encouragement have filled my sails throughout my academic career. As she images God to me, my heart responds in praise to the One who created her and allows me the joy of existing in intimate community. May his glory fill the earth (Num 14:21). Charles E. Cruise, Jr. Hanover, Pennsylvania May 2011 ix CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Purpose The purpose of this project was to equip the members of Hanover Fellowship Church with a biblical theological framework for understanding the nature and purpose of the church and their role in it.1 Goals This project served to accomplish four goals. The first goal was to increase members’ knowledge of the nature and purpose of the church. The content of the eleven- week teaching focused mainly on the spiritual identity of the church vis-à-vis the biblical story rather than other ecclesiological aspects such as government and ordinances. Benedikt, ACSA Distinguished Professor, Director, Center for American Architecture and Design,University of Texas at Austin Abstract Published in 1996* but not widely read, this article argues that space and information are so deeply related that the universe at every moment is exactly and only as large as it needs to be to “contain” the information it in fact is. Using three thought experiments—one about data visualization, one about cellular automata and consciousness, and one about the analysis of architectural space using isovists, each experiment blurring (or rather, uniting) the phenomena of psychological and physical space, the article argues that what we experience as “space” is that set of dimensions which provides the largest capacity for the world’s other qualities, objects, and events to express their variety most fully. The natural universe is incompressible, expanding only as, and because, it becomes richer in information (i.e. cools and evolves). Imaginary and virtual worlds obey the same rule: they are “naturally” as big as they are rich in information. But the possibility exists in cyberspace—as it does not in nature—to choose which dimensions will serve as the spatial framework, and which will become/appear as properties of the things themselves. Data visualizers know this well. One wonders why virtual worlds to this day look so similar to ours, then, rather than to the one envisaged by William Gibson in 1984 and 1986 and which he called “cyberspace.” A failure of architectural nerve? His distinctive approach emphasized consistency between methodology and theology in order to defend the Christian faith. Though often neglected, his doctrine of God provided the foundation for his methodology. The nature of who God is informs how we know him and how we interpret his word. The three most prominent contours of his doctrine were: the Creator-creature distinction, incomprehensibility, and the ontological Trinity. The value of these particular emphases is that they are key touchpoints for diagnosing apologetic methods and affirming the Christian system of truth. The nature of his assessment of methodology at the worldview level along these contours has wide-ranging implications for other disciplines, including hermeneutics.

Hartley Anthropology has two tasks: the scientific task of studying human beings and the instrumental task of promoting human flourishing. To date, the scientific task has been constrained by secularism, and the instrumental task by the philosophy and values of liberalism. These constraints have caused religiously based scholarship to be excluded from anthropology’s discourse, to the detriment of both tasks. The call for papers for the 2009 meetings of the American Anthropological Association (AAA) recognized the need to “push the field’s epistemological and presentational conventions” in order to reach anthropology’s various publics. Johanna Hartelius’ The Rhetoric of Exper- tise about the nature of expertise in digital contexts. I argue that digital media introduce a scale of communication—many-to-many—that reshapes how the invention of knowledge occurs. By examining how knowledge production on Wikipedia occurs, I illustrate how many-to-many communication introduces a new model of “participatory expertise.” This model of participatory expertise challenges traditional information routines by elevating procedural expertise over subject matter expertise and opening up knowledge production to the many.
