Enrique Zuazua, Eibar, Basque Country – Spain, 1961, is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). He is also an honorary member of Jakiunde, the Basque Academy of Sciences, Letters and Humanities. He holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), and a dual PhD degree from the same University (1987) and from the "Université Pierre et Marie Curie" in Paris (1988). In 1990 he became Professor of Applied Mathematics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and, in 2001, at UAM. From 2008 to 2015 he was a Distinguished Professor of Ikerbasque – The Basque Foundation for Science at BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics that he founded as Scientific Director (2008-2012) in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. He has been awarded the Euskadi (Basque Country) Prize for Science and Technology 2006 and the National Julio Rey Pastor Prize 2007 in Mathematics and Information and Communication Technology, the Advanced Grant NUMERIWAVES of the ERC in 2010 and the best article prize of Annales de l'Institut Henri Poincaré for the year 2008 (joint with Th. Duyckaerts and X. Zhang). With over 200 articles published, his work has had an important impact and he was recognized as a “Highly Cited Researcher" by the ISI Institute (Thomson) in 2004, also he has supervised 21 postdoctoral researchers and 25 PhD students. His fields of expertise in the area of Applied Mathematics cover topics related with Partial Differential Equations, Systems Control and Numerical Analysis. He is the editor-in-chief of “ESAIM:COCV" and member of the editorial committee of other Journals and of scientific committees of various centres and agencies. In the fall semester of 2013-2014 he was a visiting Professor of the “Laboratoire Jacques- Louis Lions” of the “Université Pierre et Marie Curie” with the support of the Paris City Hall. In the spring semester of 2013-2014 he hold a CIMI Chair at the CIMI – Centre International de Mathématiques et Informatique of Toulouse. He received the 2013 Humboldt Research Award to develop research activities within the research group by Profesor Günter Leugering at "Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg" and he is a Visiting Professor of the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. From 2009-2015 he run, in cooperation with the journalist Xabier Lapitz a Radio Program at Onda Vasca on various topics related to Mathematics, Higher Education and Research. He is also the author of the columns "Matemanías" and "con-CIENCIA" at the basque dayly newspaper Deia and the weekly one Zazpika-Gara. At present he collaborates with the Basque public radios on the broadcasts "Faktoria" in "Euskadi Irratia" (in Basque) and "Boulevard Magazine" in Radio Euskadi..
