Bilbao, September 3, 2014 Enrique ZUAZUA Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Lorraine, France Ø The award ceremony will be on October 9th, 2014 at Nancy, France Enrique ZUAZUA (Eibar, Basque Country, 1961), Full Professor of Applied Mathematics at the UAM-Autonomous University of Madrid, Ikerbasque Researcher and Founding Scientific Director of BCAM-Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, Bilbao, has received the degree and title of Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Lorraine, France, for the relevance of his scientific contributions and his long lasting and fruitful collaboration with the Institute of Mathematics Élie Cartan of that institution, leaded by Professor Marius TUCSNAK. The ceremony for the honorary award will take place on October 9th in the historic city of Nancy in the French northeast, from hands of Professor Pierre MUTZENHARDT, President of the University. The inaugural address of the awarded is entitled "Mathematics: A window to the future." The University of Lorraine was established in 201, as the merging of various academic institutions in the region (Metz and Nancy cities) and has a strong mathematical tradition. Proof of this is the activity of leading-high level personalities as the Geometer Élie CARTAN (1869-1951), the analyst Laurent SCHWARTZ (1915-2002, Fields Medal in 1950) and the influential applied mathematician Jacques Louis LIONS (1928-2001).
