Dear Councilmember Garcetti,

Today your committee is considering several Assembly Bills proposed by Assemblymember Michael Feuer. Assemblymember Feuer has demonstrated tremendous leadership in highlighting our region's failure to successfully fund transportation projects. His bills will allow for greater local control of transportation funding. They will also allow us to explore innovative funding strategies.

Our region is experiencing congestion at unprecedented levels. We are losing over $10 billion a year and we are wasting nearly 100 hours a year sitting in traffic. Our roads are in disrepair, our infrastmcture needs maintenance and updating. But our current funding mechanisms are failing and cannot sufficiently address the needs of today or tomorrow.

Many of these proposals are revolutionary; but our traffic crisis has grown to a point where we need to consider every possible solution for relief.

A reliable, clean, and efficient transportation system is essential for the economic health of our society as well as the health of our citizens. As population increases are projected for the region, we cannot afford to wait to make these necessary investments.

Sincerely, aa~ WENDY GREUEL Councilmember, 2nd District
