The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), in a call of its 2013 All-America Committee, has determined the following six players as semifinalists for the 2013 award: Aaron Donald, Pittsburgh defensive tackle; Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama offensive tackle; Jake Matthews, Texas A&M offensive tackle; Cyril Richardson, Baylor offensive guard; Bryan Stork, Florida State center; and David Yankey, Stanford offensive guard. The field for the Outland Trophy, which is awarded to the best interior lineman in college football on offense or defense, will be reduced to three in the next week. A four-year starter on the offensive line for the Crimson Tide, Jones has been selected as the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I football. A graduate student at Alabama working on his Master’s degree in accounting with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Jones is the first-ever four-time Capital One Academic All-America® selection. In 2009, he was named to the second team. He earned first team honors in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Jones has played all five positions on the offensive line for the Crimson Tide during his career. The winner of the Outland Trophy as the nation’s most outstanding interior offensive lineman in 2011, he was Alabama’s starting left tackle as a junior. Alabama’s starter at right guard in 2009 and 2010, he has been the Crimson Tide’s starting offensive center this season, helping the Crimson Tide earn a spot in the BCS national championship game for the third time in the last four years. Jones is a finalist for the Rimington Award, presented to the top center in college football.
