The European route of the Spanish tercios May 2021 La Route espagnole / Die Spanische Strasse : between the 80yrs- and 30 yrs Wars Die Spanische Straße war in der Frühen Neuzeit (v. a. im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert), in etwa von der Herrschaft Karls V. bis zum Ende des Dreißigjährigen Krieges, ein wichtiger Handelsweg, eine strategisch wichtige Strecke zwischen Oberitalien (damals burgundischer Reichskreis, dem der spanische König vorstand) und den spanischen Niederlanden. Er verlief durch die Schweizer Alpen und danach entlang des Rheins (an der Rheinschiene) von Basel bis in die Niederlande. Wegen seiner strategischen Bedeutung versuchten die spanischen Habsburger, sich möglichst mit allen an dieser Strecke gelegenen Städten und Territorien gut zu stellen bzw. zu verbünden. Deshalb mischte sich Spanien teilweise in die inneren Angelegenheiten des Heiligen Römischen Reiches ein. Eine besonders wichtige Bedeutung als Nachschubweg für Truppen hatte er für die spanische Krone während des Achtzigjährigen Krieges mit den aufständischen Vereinigten Niederlanden. Cultural Route of Council of Europe Partnership • Cities / regions / associations • Full partners / associated partners • Minimum 3 full (financial) partners from different countries, 1 project leader • Matching funds : also personnel / other • Interest - ideas - own (new) projects Specifics for participation • Network : • The goal of the EU project is to establish a ‘network’ that will have an agenda to continue • ‘Network’ : cities a.o. in the larger Spanish Route area (Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands) : 20, 30 ? • On the basis of each partner/city’s interests, cities can find partners to further development on the subject (Interreg, …) • Main focus proposed : common routes, storytelling, touristic projects, … • Creative Europe network composed of Financial and Associate Partners (no fin. obligations, investing in the project events) • Financial participation • ‘No’ limit : from 100 euro to 50.000 euro (in personnel cost, contractors, conferences, ….) • What is put in, is matched by EU to the extend of 60% - partners put up 40 % (60% of each euro is EU machting budget) • Total budget, EU money included is approx. 300.000 euro. • Use project participation for extra European scale-up to a maybe foreseen local/interregional idea • On the basis of a signed contract up front : Cooperation Agreement • Disponibility • Project duration to be decided • Project manager for each financial partner - part of Steering Group: average of 2 hours per week (prep, admin, meetings) • Conference, meeting participation, roll-out of project and network in each country : for all partners • Political participation at key events (mayors, elderman/woman, …) Timeline • April 2021 : call • June 2021 : proposal • September 2021 : project • December 2021 : results ? • January 2022: start ?
