BOB MARGOLIN BOB MARGOLIN’s self-titled album reveals the latest from the 2017 Blues Music Award winner for Best Male Traditional Blues Artist. Bob played and sang every note, produced, recorded and mixed this album. Six new original songs are his Blues for today’s world. He also interprets nine songs he learned “back in the day” from his legendary friends Muddy Waters, The Band, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Rogers, Snooky Pryor, Pinetop Perkins and James Cotton. December 2011 Kilborn Alley Blues Band CD Release Party By Rich Cibelli What do you get when you cross one of the hottest local blues bands around just home from a great tour of Europe and a cold late November Tuesday night at The Iron Post in Urbana? Answer -- The Kilborn Alley Blues Band “Four” CD release party. The band, which actually returned the morning of the show, showed some signs of jet lag. But that didn’t stop them from putting on one of the best performances that this writer has seen. Blues fans, that is dedication from the heart -- a plain and simple fact. There is no way to teach this. You either have it or not. The Kilborn Alley Blues Band has it. Period! Jimmy D. Lane Biography "Son of the Blues" At the age of 47, Jimmy D. Lane has already led quite a full life. The musicians he knows makes for an impressive resume. He has worked with Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Jim Keltner, Keith Richards, B.B. King, Van Morrison, Jonny Lang, Gary Moore, Double Trouble, Taj Mahal, Stephen Stilles, Jeff Healy, Jimmie Lee Robinson, Lowell Fulson, and Snooky Pryor, Kim Wilson, Pinetop Perkins, Johnny ‘Big Moose’ Walker, Johnnie Johnson, Kim Wilson, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Harry Hypolite, George ‘Wild Child’ Butler, David ‘HoneyBoy’ Edwards, Weepin’ Willie Robinson, Little Hatch, Nancy Bryan, Willie Kent, Henry Gray, Lazy Lester and Eomot RaSun. He has also worked with venerable blues greats such as Sam Lay, Hubert Sumlin, Carey Bell, Dave Meyers and his father, the legendary Jimmy Rogers. Born July 4th, 1965 in Chicago, he grew up in a household where he became acquainted with a veritable who's who of Chicago bluesmen. Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Willie Mabon, Little Walter and Albert King, to name a few, would all stop by the house to visit the "old man." Coming from this environment has instilled in Lane the deepest respect for elder statesmen of the blues. "I feel blessed and fortunate, to have known all those cats, and I do not take it for granted." At the age of eight, he began playing his dad's guitar, which he wasn't supposed to do. "I would break a string and put it back in the case like he wasn't going to discover it," Lane recalls.

BOB MARGOLIN - Live at Brianza Blues Festival, 7 luglio 2011 STEADY ROLLIN’ BOB MARGOLIN - Bob Margolin nasce a Boston nel 1949, ma cresce a Brookline, Massachusetts. Comincia a impugnare la chitarra all’età di 15 anni e sin da ragazzo si ispira alla musica di Chuck Berris e Muddy Waters. Nel 1973 Bob assiste a un concerto di Muddy Waters e lo stesso Muddy gli propone di suonare nella sua band. Bob ha quindi la possibilità di imparare a suonare la chitarra non più ascoltando i dischi di Waters ma suonando con lui. L’amicizia con Muddy porta Bob a girare il mondo e a salire su molti palchi tra cui, nel 1976, quello del concerto di The Band The Last Waltz che il regista Martin Scorsese rende immortale nel film omonimo. Gli anni 80 vedono Bob collaborare con numerosi artisti tra cui Steve Jacobs, Big Joe Maher, Tom Principato, Fats Jackson, Sweet Betty e Nappy Brown. Il primo album da solista The Old School esce nel 1989 e due anni dopo viene pubblicato il secondo Chicago Blues che tra le altre vede la collaborazione della celebre leggenda della chitarra Jimmy Rogers. Chicago Beau, il viaggiatore del Blues. interview by Gianni Franchi. You've toured constantly around the world , which was the reason you never stopped? The popularity of Blues goes in cycles. There has always been a kind of base audience that are true Blues Lovers, and fans of highly visible Blues artists like Buddy Guy, BB King, Koko Taylor and others who have been around for years. And those performers have often experienced periods with less work. So, a Blues artist must keep busy, and play wherever in the world, whenever. Unfortunately, Blues is the least promoted music. So, as Sonny Boy Williamson said, ‘You got to catch it while it’s hot, if you let it cool, I won’t be worth a damn!’ And so, I’ll only stop when too old to perform. Which is the country where you found yourself most at ease and why? Each country has something different to offer. I have a great appreciation for warm climates. I think that is naturally in my DNA. I like Quebec, and Canada in general because of the diversity. I had great experiences in Iceland, recording, and live performances. As you know I lived in Italy for five years primarily because of the beauty of Italian people, their rich cultural heritage, and their appreciation of Black Music and culture. You know the expression, ‘different reason, different season.’ Seasons can be, metaphorically, a person’s age. Where you are in your life. Things are always changing. And from the musical point of view which one did you think was the best? Italy, Quebec, Senegal, Iceland, Kenya.

Everything Gonna Be Alright "Unk" In Funk, Muddy Waters' 1974 release, saw the Chicago bluesman further building on the electric blues of albums like Electric Mud (1968) and After The Rain (1969). It would be one of the last collections of original material that Waters would record with Chess Records, after a nearly 30-year association with the label. The record included a core line up of famed blues players who would remain Waters' backing band for the duration of his career, featuring Pinetop Perkins on piano, (Earl Hooker) Luther Johnson (The Nighthawks) and Bob Margolin on guitar, Calvin "Fuzz" Jones on bass, (The Legendary Blues Band) and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith on drums, (Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker) with additional guest appearances by George Buford, Paul Oscher (Louisiana Red), and Carey Bell (Willie Dixon) on harmonica. Even at the age of 61, Waters sounds at the top of his game on "Unk" In Funk. His booming, powerful blues vocals dominate the album's fuzzy, electric orchestration. Overhauled versions of Waters classics like "Rollin' and Tumblin'" and "Just To Be With You" sound fresh as ever, and newer tracks like "Katie" and "Waterboy, Waterboy" are classic and organic additions to Waters' discography. Overlooked and underrated in its time, "Unk" In Funk is a pinnacle album from Waters' catalog. Format: CD Cat. WALTER HORTON, AN EASY MAN Discografia completa commentata di Sugarbluz Walter Horton nasce il 6 aprile 1918 in una fattoria vicino a Horn Lake, Mississippi, Contea DeSoto, ma nel suo primo anno d’età la famiglia, che include un fratello, Albert, e tre sorelle, Katy, Maggie e Bernice, si trasferisce nella vicina Memphis, Tennessee. Dapprima si dedica al pianoforte, ma poi il suo passatempo preferito diventa accompagnare, con l’armonica che un bel giorno suo padre porta a casa, i 78 giri di blues che girano sul grammofono di famiglia. Dopo due anni di pratica e scomparso da poco il padre Walter decide di contribuire al sostentamento familiare, così comincia a suonare per le strade di Memphis arrivando a guadagnare anche otto dollari al giorno, e in poco tempo tra i musicisti locali si comincia a parlare del piccolo Walter, ed è così che conosce Floyd Jones, Johnny Shines, Jimmy DeBerry. Ad appena nove anni registra con la nota Memphis Jug Band dell’armonicista e chitarrista Will Shade (detto Son Brimmer, probabilmente il suo primo maestro di tecnica insieme a Hammie Nixon, fedele partner di 'Sleepy' John Estes); il dato non è genericamente accettato vista la giovane età, ma l’autore Samuel Charters ritiene che sia vero.
