India ranks 95 among 129 countries in global gender equality index
India ranked 95th out of 129 countries in a
new index that measures global gender
equality looking at aspects such as
poverty, health, education, literacy,
political representation and equality at
the workplace. Denmark was ranked at
the first place and Chad at 129th place. China ranked at 74 position, Pakistan at 113 while Nepal
and Bangladesh at 102 and 110 respectively, the index said.
The Sustainable Development Goals Gender Index has been developed by UK-based Equal
Measures 2030, a joint effort of regional and global organisations including African Women's
Development and Communication Network, Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for
Women, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and International Women's Health Coalition.
Indian Oil, BPCL, HPCL to form JV for Kandla-Gorakhpur LPG pipeline project
Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum Corporation
(BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd
(HPCL) will be laying the world’s longest
LPG pipeline, from Kandla (Gujarat) to
Gorakhpur (UP). An IndianOil statement
said the 2,757-km cross-country pipeline will

coast and reach LPG to 22 bottling plants (BPs) of the three oil marketing companies (OMCs).
The Kandla-Gorakhpur LPG pipeline is estimated to cost about Rs. 10,000 crore. It will be
implemented through a joint venture company where Indian Oil will hold 50 percent and the
other two OMCs will hold 25 percent each.
Assam govt to provide subsidy of Rs 1.7 lakh for admission in North East Skill Centre
Assam government to provide a subsidy of 1.7
lakh rupees for the admission in the North East
Skill Centre. Mission Director of the Assam Skill
Development Mission AP Tiwari said that the total
course fees of the first batch students would be
around 2.2 lakh rupees. He said that 400 students
would get admission in the first batch.
The Centre has got the support from Singapore's IITEES. Mr. Tiwari said that the Chief
Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has given much stress in the skill development sector and various
industry leaders have shown interest in this sector.
World Bank retains India's growth rate forecast for FY19-20 at 7.5%
The World Bank has retained its forecast of
India's growth rate at 7.5% for the current
financial year. In its report Global Economic
Prospects, the World Bank also said growth rate
is expected to remain the same for the next two

fiscals. "In India, growth is projected at 7.5 percent in FY2019/20 (April 1, 2019 to March 31,
2020), unchanged from the previous forecast, and to stay at this pace through the next two fiscal
years," the World Bank said in its report.
TN gets $287-m World Bank loan for healthcare reform
The Centre, the Tamil Nadu Government
(GoTN) and the World Bank have signed a
$287-million loan agreement for the Tamil
Nadu Health System Reform Programme
(TNHSRP).
TNHSRP aims to improve the quality of
healthcare, reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and fill equity gaps in
reproductive and child health services in the State, according to an official statement.
RBI approves Rakesh Makhija as Axis Bank non-executive Chairman
The Reserve Bank of India has approved the
appointment of Rakesh Makhija as the Non-
Executive (Part-Time) Chairman of Axis Bank, the
lender said in a regulatory filing on Monday. The
appointment will be for a three-year period from
July 18, 2019 to July 17, 2022. Axis Bank had in
March this year proposed Makhija as the non-
executive Chairman.

'Cyclone man' Mrutyunjay Mohapatra new IMD chief
Renowned scientist and cyclone warning
specialist Mrutyunjay Mohapatra was
appointed as the chief of India Meteorological
Department (IMD), according to a Personnel
Ministry order. The 54-year-old Scientist 'G' and
Additional Director General in the IMD has been
appointed as Director General of Meteorology, IMD, for a period of five years.
Mohapatra and his team at the Cyclone Warning Division of the IMD have earned praise for
their accurate forecasts on cyclones, its wind-speed and likely impact on life and property
including during the recent cyclone 'Fani', when their timely warnings enabled the authorities
to ensure early evacuation of millions of people.
Gianni Infantino Waved in for Second Term as FIFA President
Gianni Infantino has been re-elected as president
of football's world governing body Fifa for a
second term. The Swiss-Italian, 49, was re-elected
until 2023 without opposition at Fifa's annual
congress in Paris.
He succeeded Sepp Blatter in 2016 and has
increased the number of teams at the 2026 World
Cup and proposed key changes to the Club World Cup. Ex-president Blatter was in charge for
17 years until he was banned amid a corruption scandal in 2015.

Veteran actress Sheela was chosen for the

World Environment Day: 05 June
Since its inception in 1974, the World
Environment Day is celebrated every year on
June 5 in more than 100 countries. The World
Environment Day provides an opportunity to
broaden the “basis for an enlightened opinion and
responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises
and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment,” according to the United
Nations.

The purpose of the International Day for the
Fight against Illegal, Unreported and
Unregulated (IUU) Fishing is to draw attention
to the threats posed by IUU fishing activities to
the sustainable use of fisheries resources as well
as to ongoing efforts to fight these activities.
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) illegal, unreported and
unregulated fishing activities are responsible for the loss of 11–26 million tonnes of fish each
year, which is estimated to have an economic value of US$10–23 billion.

Jay-Z has become the world's first hip-hop
billionaire, according to US business magazine
Forbes. It says even a "conservative estimate" of
his earnings has him breaking the billion dollar
barrier.
Alongside music, his fortune includes more
than $410m (£300m) invested in alcohol companies and a roughly $70m stake in Uber. Jay-Z,

Indian businessman Yusuff Ali gets first Gold Card permanent residency visa in UAE
The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship of
the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday
announced that it had issued its first gold residence
card to Indian business leader Yusuff Ali MA, the
chairman of LuLu Group International.
The Indian business tycoon became the first among
6,800 investors to receive the UAE's permanent
residency. The first batch of beneficiaries include investors with total investments exceeding
(dirham) Dh100 billion.
Yusuff Ali was awarded the gold card by Brigadier Saeed Salem Al Shamsi, the executive
director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs.
