RUNNING HEAD: THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY’S INFLUENCE ON WOMEN 1 HONORS THESIS The Beauty Industry’s Influence on Women in Society By Ann Marie Britton Fall Semester, 2012 Faculty Sponsor: Bruce E. Pfeiffer, Ph.D. THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY’S INFLUENCE ON WOMEN 2 Abstract There has been a significant amount of research done on the effect that advertising in the fashion and beauty industry has on women. By creating advertisements with unrealistic images of beauty, it has resulted in anxiety, low self-esteem, and low self-confidence in many women. Most of these negative emotions stems from unhappiness among body and appearance. Less research has been performed relating to cosmetics and how this can have an influence on women, and how women can use cosmetics to manipulate their appearance.

  • All You Want to Know About Stage Makeup
All you want to know about stage makeup Important: Stage lights can make you look puffy, pale and washed out. Make sure you apply make-up so the people in the back can see your face. You should not apply make-up like you would if you are going out for the night for dinner and dancing. Men – yes, you will be wearing make-up: foundation, mascara, blush and lipstick. Buy your own supplies; sharing make-up is unhygienic (especially eye products) Make up steps 1. Start with a clean face. MEN – SHAVE!! 2. Apply false eyelashes (if you are wearing them). If you are not wearing false eyelashes, try to curl your lashes. 3. Apply moisturizer and let dry 4. Mascara. a. You can use your foundation to cover up any smudges, OR apply after foundation so it won’t get dusted with powder. b. Color – BLACK BLACK BLACK c. When applying, twirl the wand, don’t pump the wand to coat it. Pumping allows in air and hastens dry-out d. Hold the brush horizontal for upper lashes. Start at the base and wiggle it up to the tips to maximize separation and lushness. Allow the first coat to dry completely, then repeat. e. Hold the brush vertically for lower lashes and sweep it lightly across them f. If lengthening is your goal, fluff on an extra dash of lengthening mascara just at the tips of the lashes 5. Foundation a. Select a foundation a shade slightly darker than your normal skin tone. Dot on lightly and blend into the skin.

And if you're wearing foundation, it can turn into a greasy, slick mess, leaving your skin looking oily, streaky, and patched with clumps of makeup. So can you get your skin looking dewy and beautiful without having the heat melt it off? The secret, says Mally, is to use primer and a powder foundation. The primer will lock moisture into your skin, and provide a smooth surface to apply foundation on; the powder foundation will cover your skin to even it out and make it look glowy without risking melting (since it's oil free) Directions: 1) Apply the primer all over an already cleansed and moisturized face and allow to sink in skin for one minute. 2) Apply a powder foundation with a brush in a circular motion buffing it into the skin. This works the best because it gives a seamless natural finish that doesn't look like makeup. It also combats shine, and it's an all-in-one foundation & powder application! • Rehearsal, Show, Hair & Makeup Guidelines
Rehearsal, Show, Hair & Makeup Guidelines Rehearsal & Show Guidelines to Make a JOYful Experience for All: ALWAYS – Check to be sure you have everything needed. Designate a “Show Bag” with all your items. We provided a checklist for costume pieces in the Costume Book to make it easier. We recommend making your own checklist for Hip Hop Costumes. Check these lists before coming to the show and when leaving the theater every time. – Write names on all costume pieces, tights and shoes. – Please plan ahead and be on time. – Costumes should be clean and unwrinkled. – Sewing is always preferred over pinning when making any costume fixes/adjustments. – Underwear should not be worn under tights if they are visible or show lines. If the audience can’t see them under your costume, no one needs to know. – Please do not wear any jewelry that doesn’t go with the costume. Neat nail polish as part of your hip hop style / finale costume is fine, but no nail polish in matchingcostumed classes. – Please plan meals accordingly. Pack a water bottle and small snacks. Please have a wrap or cover up available because it’s never a good idea to eat in costume. REHEARSAL – Only one parent or guardian per dancer at the Rehearsal please. – Videotaping and Flash Photography are not allowed. Nonflash photos at Rehearsal are fine! We want dancers to get to rehearse without the pressure of being videotaped. – Hair & Makeup should be done at the Dress Rehearsal. We would like to see if a dancer needs more or less of anything.

Academic Editor: Enzo Berardesca Received: 13 March 2017; Accepted: 28 April 2017; Published: 3 May 2017 Abstract: The market these days is a hub of a variety of commercially available cosmetic products, and foundation makeup to be precise, containing various types of important bioactive compounds both from natural and synthetic sources. The current study explores the usage of foundation lotions among undergraduate female students of an engineering college in West Bengal, India, and its antioxidant potential such as free radical scavenging, anti-lipid peroxidation, and reducing power. Red Blood Corpuscles hemolysis assay was also tested for evaluating it safety measures. Results confirmed the presence of antioxidant-related bioactive components and hence the antioxidant property in each brand tested, albeit in varying degrees. Free radical scavenging, anti-lipid peroxidation, and reducing power were also exhibited by all samples tested. Hemolytic activity was not significantly noted among the foundations, though each exhibited different results. Lotion with the least bioactive components exhibited high hemolytic activity. The findings of this study reveal the secret behind the usefulness of foundation lotions on the basis of antioxidant contents and free radical scavenging activity. The results of this study confirmed that it is very unlikely that all the essential qualities of a good cosmetic product will be present all at once.
