All you want to know about stage makeup Important: Stage lights can make you look puffy, pale and washed out. Make sure you apply make-up so the people in the back can see your face. You should not apply make-up like you would if you are going out for the night for dinner and dancing. Men – yes, you will be wearing make-up: foundation, mascara, blush and lipstick. Buy your own supplies; sharing make-up is unhygienic (especially eye products) Make up steps 1. Start with a clean face. MEN – SHAVE!! 2. Apply false eyelashes (if you are wearing them). If you are not wearing false eyelashes, try to curl your lashes. 3. Apply moisturizer and let dry 4. Mascara. a. You can use your foundation to cover up any smudges, OR apply after foundation so it won’t get dusted with powder. b. Color – BLACK BLACK BLACK c. When applying, twirl the wand, don’t pump the wand to coat it. Pumping allows in air and hastens dry-out d. Hold the brush horizontal for upper lashes. Start at the base and wiggle it up to the tips to maximize separation and lushness. Allow the first coat to dry completely, then repeat. e. Hold the brush vertically for lower lashes and sweep it lightly across them f. If lengthening is your goal, fluff on an extra dash of lengthening mascara just at the tips of the lashes 5. Foundation a. Select a foundation a shade slightly darker than your normal skin tone. Dot on lightly and blend into the skin. Be careful to not leave lines around the neck and jam line. b. You should smooth it over your face with a sponge and blend down your neck, over your jaw and don’t forget your necklines and other exposed skin. c. Remember your ears also! 6. Blush All you want to know about stage makeup (1/2013) Page 1 a. Apply blush by first sweeping your brush hrough the loose powder thenthrough your powdered blush. This will blend the blush in better. b. For men – a little color is needed on the cheeks. c. Remember to highlight those “hard places” like bones. Down the center of your nose, on your chin, on your cheekbones, on your forehead. d. Blend so you don’t see obvious lines. e. Remember the “apples” of your cheeks and again BLEND. 7. Eyeliner a. For creamy pencil, liquid gel orpen, use the tip of the brush or point for the finest line, getting right to the base of the lashes. Extend the line from one corner of your eye to the other. b. For powdery pencil or crayon, being on your eyelid either at the corner of your eye, or at the outer third of your lid. c. Lower lids should be done with a light hand, and never directly on the rim of the lid. 8. Eyebrows a. Lightly stroke them with an eyeliner pencil or brow pencil 9. Powder a. Apply loose powder to the face. Try to match foundation. This will set your face. 10. Lip Liner and Lipstick a. Lip liner is OPTIONAL. b. Your liner must match your lipstick, or it should be neutral. If you use it, put it on first c. Starting at the center of the upper lip, draw a line to each outer corner, following the edge of your natural lip line. Fill in the color all over your lips if you want extra holding power for your lipstick. Also a little foundation on your lips will help hold the color d. Use creamy formula lipstick so your lips don’t dry out. (INCLUDING MEN) e. Stretch your lips and starting at the center of the top or bottom, glide color the corners. Blot, reapply and blot again for longer-lasting color. A lip brush gives you the most precision in applying lipstic, so you may want to consider using one of them. f. Don’t go too bright with the color. A matte color that is slightly darker than your natural lip color is good. Men’s quick-start guide 1. Shave first 2. Foundation 3. Blush 4.
