Saturday, September 16 9:15 a.m. Shabbat and Selichot Torah Study, our popular adult Torah class led by master teacher Diane Lavin. In this session, discussion will focus on what the young nation of Israel needed from Moses as he approached his death and what Moses offered our people in those moments? What meaning might this have for us as we approach the High Holy Days? 9:30 a.m. Special Morning Simchat Shabbat for preschoolers with Shira Kline. Our clergy will be joined by Shira (aka Shirlala) who channels her boundless energy and exuberance into songs and stories for an imaginative Shabbat morning experience for preschoolers and their families. Erev Rosh Hashanah - Wednesday, September 20 6:00 p.m. Youth Group Service (Bonda Chapel) This guitar-accompanied service is written and led by our high school youth group ACTY (Anshe Chesed Temple Youth) who will be joined by Rabbi Robert Nosanchuk in helping congregants begin a celebratory new year. 7:45 p.m. Congregational Service (Mandel Sanctuary) The Congregational Service features well-loved traditional and contemporary music and prayer designed to inspire, uplift and invite participation. Rabbi Nosanchuk* 7 p.m. Fairmount Young Professionals (FYP ) 6th Annual Jew Year’s Eve at Patterson’s Farm, a creative service and celebration, led by Rabbi Joshua Caruso* and educator/musician Ricky Marcus, with bonfire, hayrides, music and desserts for young adults, 21 and over. Rabbi Jordana Chernow-Reader* and Cantor Sarah Sager 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. Music Meditation (Mandel Sanctuary) This annual hour of beautiful music and meditation will be led by Franklin Cohen, outstanding clarinetist and currently director of ChamberFest Cleveland, and includes an array of talented musicians. 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. Youth Group Meditation (Youth Room) ACTY will host a Meditation Hour for young people in grades 7 – 12 to gather in prayer, reflection and song youth room (#26) 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Milton & Ruth Stern Social Action Lecture (Brickner Auditorium). Rev. J. Bennett Guess, who will speak on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties: An Issue of Faith?, is the newly appointed Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Ohio. Previous to his work at ACLU, he served in a variety of roles with the 1.1 million-member United Church of Christ, including as the first openly gay person to serve as one of UCC's national officers. In addition, he served for eight years as the pastor of the Zion UCC in Henderson, Kentucky. 3:15 p.m. Afternoon and Yizkor Memorial Service (Mandel Sanctuary) Participate with our whole community in a creative Yom Kippur afternoon service. We will join together and be led and inspired by all our prayer leaders, musicians, choir, clergy and guests together. Please join all our clergy at this inspirational service! Rabbi Nosanchuk will speak. 5:30 p.m. Neilah Service (Mandel Sanctuary) All clergy We invite everyone – families, children, all generations – to join as one community for Neilah, the final moments of Yom Kippur. We pray, approach the ark, sing and uplift one another as the Day of Atonement concludes with a majestic final blast of the shofar. * Designates clergy member speaking at the service.
