For several years, 10:30 a.m. Shabbat Minyan we have engaged in an ongoing process of making the music of this congregation as accessible, up II :00 a.m. Shabbat Morning Service Bat Mitzvah - Brooke Insler beat, and participatory as possible. We have instituted contemporary services, audio-visual tech VAYElRA niques to support participation, and have increased congregant involvement in a variety of musical Genesis 18:1 - 22:24 venues. While we have made great strides in these areas, we have sought to create an instrumental Haftarah - II Kings 4: 1-37 program as another powerful, innovative and unique point of entry into synagogue life. We believe that the creation of a strong, active, exciting congregational band will help to further energize and Friday, November 13 vitalize the life of our congregation! Our sense is that an individual who has, or at one point had, three to five years experi ence playing would greatly enjoy the experience of making music with others at Fairmount Temple! Saturday, November 14 9: 15 a.In. Torah Study Rehearsals and performances will be determined so as not to be overly demanding on anyone's time! 10 a.m. Teen and Tot Shabbat We already have the nucleus of a great ensemble! If you were at our Neilah Service, you 10:30 a.m. Shabbat Minyan heard the debut of this joyous, wonderful group of musicians. Among their ranks were: three flutes, 11 :00 a.m. Shabbat Sanctuary Service clarinet, saxophone, French horn, viola, two trombones, electric bass, and guitar. If you didn't see Bar Mitzvah - Ethan Newburger them at Neilah, come to the Friday, Nov. 20,6:15 p.m. when this great ensemble returns!! CHAYEI SARAH At the helm, conducting and arranging music, was our very own congregational song Genesis 23:1 - 25:18 leader, Dan Utley. Dan has been Fairmount Temple's song leader and program director for several Haftarah - I Kings 1: 1 - 31 years and spends his summers at Goldman Union Camp Institute as their program director and song Friday, November 20 leader! As the administrative organizer of this entire project, we have a very special person in Lynn 6: 15 p.m. Shabbat Evening Service Kleinman. Lynn grew up at Fairmount Temple, sang in our choir, co-directs the Jr. Choir with me, 8 p.m. Chevrei Tikva GLBT Service directs our Chesed Singers and, for three years, has been the director of our PurimSpiels! As good as this ensemble nucleus is, and as great as it promises to be, we still need more musi Saturday, November 21 cians! We are looking for a significant group that will not only inspire and uplift our worship, but 9:15 a.m. Torah Study will become part of the life of our congregation in a myriad of ways and will positively influence other 10:30 a.m. Shabbat Minyan parts of our musical program.
