By RAY COONEY The Commercial Review Jay County will have a new commissioner representing the south district in 2021. Three Republicans are hoping for that opportunity. Brian McGalliard, Duane Mon - roe and Barb Street are all seek - ing the GOP nomination for the seat after incumbent Republican Chuck Huffman announced in December that he would not be seeking another term. No Democrats have filed to run for the seat, though the party could slate a candidate following the primary. Photos provided Special day for special kids Special needs students in the kindergarten to grade 2 class at East Elementary School were honored with their own awards ceremony thanks to teacher Jenny Herndon, along with Terri Barker and Emily Reynolds. The coronavirus pandemic upended the students’ routine by closing school. Routine is an important aspect of special needs students' daily lives so the closure of school, along with e-learning, was a little confusing for them. The awards ceremony was held in Herndon’s garage, which was decorated for the occasion. Each student had an individual time slot in order to keep with social distancing requirements. At their appointed time, each student could see his or her teachers, receive classroom awards, accept a trophy and have photos taken.
