Kano State Water Board (KSWB) was saddle with responsibility of domestic water supply to the entire state. The state have about 22 water treatment plants that source, treat and distribute water to the residents of the study area. The data collected were from secondary sources, descriptive statistics was the statistical instruments used in the data analysis. KSWB supply about 415 million litres daily (MLD) to the Kano city and its environs and about 92 MLD to local government headquarters and semi-urban areas. Similarly, there about 50 commercial water standing pumps being operated and maintained by KSWB to ease water supply to nook and crannies of the state.Where pipe borne water is not connected, boreholes, hands pumped and concrete wells are constructed by Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) to ease water supply at sufficient quality and quantity to rural communities in the state. Fundación CIDOB CIDOB INTERNATIONAL YEARBOOK 2008 Nigeria and its regional context Biographies of main political leaders of Nigeria Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (1912 -1966) Prime minister 1960-1966 Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s first and only Prime Minister of independent Nigeria, was born in 1912 in Tafawa Balewa, present Bauchi State. He had early education at a Quranic School in Bauchi and also studied at the famous Katsina Teachers’ Training College between 1928 and 1933 before returning to Bauchi to teach at the Bauchi Middle School. He later became the headmaster of the school. He (along with Malam Aminu Kano) was among the few learned teachers who were selected in northern Nigeria to study at the University of London’s Institute of Education where he obtained a teacher’s certificate in History in 1944. On return from the UK, Sir Balewa was appointed an Inspector of Schools, a position he held before he joined partisan politics and got elected by the Bauchi Native Authority to the Northern Region House of Assembly in 1946. -

International Journal of Advanced Research in ISSN Public Policy, Administration and Development Strategies (IJARPPADS) print: 2315-8395 Volume 4 Number 1 February, 2020 electronic: 2489-012X Corruption and National Security: The Military Campaign against Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria Shimawua, Dominic Department of Public Administration Veritas University Abuja Abstract here is enough evidence to believe that the military campaign against Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria has lasted so long as a result of corruption. This study Texamined the extent to which the cankerworm has affected military operations which the current Head of State promised to execute within a very short time, so much that it is taking several years. Data was obtained from secondary materials which include – books, journals, periodicals, newspapers, the internet, etc. Data analysis was done by the technique of content analysis while the economic paradigm of corruption, Vannucci (2015), was adopted as the theoretical framework of the study. Findings revealed that the ght against Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria has lasted so long due to corruption that has eaten deep into the fabrics of the military hierarchy. It was therefore, suggested in the paper that the military hierarchy be sanitized by ushing out all culprits to ensure that every kobo released for the campaign is efciently utilized for the very purpose for which it is meant. The Constitution vests each arm with specific roles in consonance with the doctrine of separation of powers. Reciprocal checks and balances in the governing system is an important feature of separation of powers. The legislature checks the other organs, and vice versa. The goal is to ensure accountability in governance. One way by which the legislature ensures accountability of the executive is through the impeachment process. This power is vested in a bicameral legislature at the federal level – the National Assembly (NASS). This paper, a desk review, appraises the impeachment power of the National Assembly as provided for in the Constitution. It examines the extent to which this power has been employed to ensure the accountability of the executive under the present democratic dispensation. It argues that the National Assembly has failed to utilise its power of impeachment because it has been compromised due to its own accountability deficit. It recommends, among others, that the NASS should strive to conduct the business of the Assembly in a manner that preserves the integrity of the legislature and avoids conflicts of interest. -

They also decide who should govern them. In doing these as well as in their day-to-day life, the people have all the basic freedoms of speech, association, assembly, conscience, etc. Such institutions as an independent judiciary, free press, competitive political parties and an active civil society also protect them. Objectives On the completion of this chapter, the reader should be able to: - narrate how representative democracy started in Nigeria - explain what a Constitution is - trace the development of the right to vote (franchise) in Nigeria - explain the structure of the three tiers of government - describe the process by which the people elect their government. In 1914 the first Colonial Governor- General of Nigeria, Lord Frederick Luggard amalgamated the southern and northern protectorates to form Nigeria. Earlier on, another British explorer Mungo Park had discovered the River Niger; hence the name Nigeria literarily means Niger area. 1 Lord Frederick Luggard 1914 -1919 Nigeria remained a colony of Britain until October1, 1960. The British administered the country as three regions, namely: Northern, Western and Eastern. Each region had a government, which was responsible for the affairs of that region. This arrangement started in 1946 under the Richards Constitution – which was the first federal constitution of Nigeria. -
