Airport Transportation

Taxis: Available from the airport. Trip to hotel approximately $50.

Sedan/Limousine: Flat rate fare to is $46.50.

Shuttle: Calgary Allied Airport Shuttle (www.airportshuttlecalgary.ca, 403-299-9555) is $15 one way. A check-in counter and waiting area are located on the arrivals level near arrivals "C" in the ground transportation area for travelers going to Calgary downtown hotels and the Greyhound Bus depot. Passengers travelling to the Airport are dropped off on the Departures level adjacent to the airline check-in. Departures from YYC every 30 minutes at Bus Bay #8.

Public Transit: $8.50 – tickets available at the Ticket Vending Machine located at the bus zone, from the Mac’s convenience stores located in the airport terminal, or can be paid in cash on the bus. Route 300 (an Express Bus) operates every 30 minutes from the Airport will take you within a short walk of the Delta Bow Valley Hotel (get off at the intersection of Centre St SW and 4 Ave SE.)

Travel in Downtown Calgary

Taxis: At stands outside of hotels or may be hailed on the street.

Car2Go: If you are a member of Car2Go, you can use your card to access vehicles in Calgary.

Calgary Light Rapid Transit (CTrain): The closest station to our hotel is Centre Street (see map below). Travel for only $3.00. Once validated, tickets are good for 90 minutes in any direction. Downtown C-TRAIN transportation is a free fare zone (see green section on map). Rush hour service has a five-minute frequency and off-peak service is reduced to every 15 minutes.

Things to Do in Calgary

Glenbow Museum (www.glenbow.org): Located about 5 minutes’ walk south of the hotel. Admission: Adults $15, Senior $10. Devoted to the art and culture of Sothern Alberta and the West. Permanent Exhibitions include ‘Many Faces, Many Paths: Art of Asia’, ‘Mavericks: AN Incorrigible History of Alberta’, The Blackfoot Gallery: ‘Niitsitapiisinni: Our Way of Life’, ‘Warriors: A Global Journey Through Five Centuries’. Special exhibits during our conference include:  Vanishing Ice: Alpine and Polar Landscapes in Art 1775 – 2012 (September 27, 2014 – January 4, 2015): 70 works showing the legacy of the planet’s frozen frontiers now threatened by climate change. Made in Calgary: The 2000s (September 20 – December 14, 2014): The fifth and final installment in Glenbow’s groundbreaking survey of regional art reflects the energy and diversity of the arts community in the first decade of the 21st century.  From Our Collection: Searching for the Northwest Passage (September 27, 2014 – January 4, 2015): This exhibition brings together objects from Glenbow’s cultural and military history collection, archives and library, and art collection and includes artifacts from important exhibitions; original letters, maps and journals; as well as drawings and prints by artist-explorers.

Calgary Tower (www.calgarytower.com): Located steps from the Glenbow, at 1228 metres above sea level, the is home to the highest 360° observation deck in the world. Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors, open from 9am to 10pm. Visitors can dine at Ruth’s Chris Steak House (403- 246-3636 for reservation, walk-ins welcome) or the Sky 360 Restaurant, which revolves completely every 45 minutes (403-532-7966 reservations recommended.)

Eau Clair Market (www.eauclairmarket.com): Located about 15 minutes from the hotel, Eau Claire Market boasts lots of unique, artisan shops.

Inglewood Village: Located about a 30-minute walk down River pathway, or a short taxi ride, Inglewood Village boasts many shops filled with antiques.

Stephen Avenue (www.calgarydowntown/saw.html): Located approximately 8 minutes’ walk from the hotel, Calgary’s downtown pedestrian mall provides dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Calgary Zoo: One of North America’s premier zoos. See the new Komodo dragons! Price is $23 for adults and $21 for seniors. The zoo can be accessed via its own CTrain station (see map above).

Core Shopping Centre (www.coreshopping.ca): Located about 15 minutes from the hotel, the Core is Calgary’s downtown mall. At the top of the centre is the beautiful Devonian Gardens, complete with live fish (and a grand piano, if you’d like to practice!)

Canmore (www.canmore.ca) and Banff (www.banff.ca): Located about 1¼ and 1½ hours from the hotel, Canmore and Banff are small towns with excellent antiques and Canadiana surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. Travel by rental car or the Brewster Banff Airport Express (www.brewster.ca, 1-866- 606-6700, $55 each way, departs approximately every three hours). Pickup and dropoff can be arranged at the Delta Bow Valley Hotel.

Food, Glorious Food!

The Delta Hotel is in the northeast corner of downtown Calgary. Most food options will be found by walking south and west from the hotel. The (8th Avenue) strip, between 1st Street SE and 2nd Street SW is home to many restaurants and pubs.

Areas of Town

Chinatown (www.chinatown.com/eateries.html): Located 3 minutes (about a 1 block walk) from the Delta Bow Valley hotel, Calgary’s Chinatown boasts dozens of Asian restaurants including Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese cuisine.

Kensington (www.visitkensington.com, 10 Street NW and Kensington Road NW): Located a few minutes away by CTrain (see map – Sunnyside Station) or cab, Calgary’s Kensington Village boasts some of Calgary’s best dining for every taste. Notables: Blue Nile Restaurant (Ethiopian), Brasserie Kensington (French), Maurya Finest Indian Cuisine, Molly Malone’s Irish Pub, Osteria de Medici (Italian), WineBar Kensington, and Pucinella Pizza.

Inglewood, 9th Ave SE between 9th Street SE and 13th Street SE (about a 10 minute cab ride east of downtown and the hotel) has some good restaurants and music venues -- most notable are Without Papers Pizza, 1216 9 Ave SE and Rouge 1240 8 Ave SE ($$$)
