The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) promotes the use of industrial information in developing countries by giving guidance in improving local information facilities. As one of the means of promotion, UNIDO compiles directories and guides to selected information sources on branches of industry of primary concern to developing countries. The present guide, dealing with woodworking machinery, is the thirty-first in the series of UNIDO Guides to Information Sources (UNIDO/LIB/SER.D). A list of the guides published to date appears at the end of this guide; more are planned for the series. The directories and guides are not intended to be exhaustive, nor are they intended to be research tools; rather they present sources considered to be of practical value to users. The data have been compiled so as to facilitate rapid access to the bodies referred to and the acquisition of the publications listed. The woodworking industry, which has great potential for the developing countries, is in various stages of development. There is a need for sawmills to be established or modernized, and for joinery, carpentry and furniture factories to be equipped with the machines and tools best suited to their local conditions. The last three decades have seen a tremendous improvement in the machinery and equipment utilized at the primary and secondary stages of production. UNIDO has sponsored many seminars, workshops and technical assistance programmes in this field. It also provides advisory services for the establishment of industries in developing countries. Pour faciliter la diffusion et l'utilisation de l'information industrielle dans les pays en développement, l'Organisation des Nations Unies pour le développement industriel (ONUDI) aide ces pays à améliorer leurs moyens d'information, notamment en établissant des répertoires et des guides des principales sources d'information sur les secteurs industriels qui présentent pour eux un intérêt majeur. Le présent guide, qui concerne l'industrie des machines à bois, est le trente et unième de la série des Guides des sources d information (UNIDO/LIB/SER.D). On trouvera à la page 3 de la couverture la 'iste des guides déjà parus. D'autres sont prévus. Les ouvrages de cette série ne prétendent pas être exhaustifs, ce ne sont pas non plus des instruments de recherche, mais de simples guides des sources d'information considérées comme présentant un intérêt pratique pour les utilisateurs. Les données sont présentées de manière à permettre à ceux-ci de se mettre rapidement en rapport avec les sources d'information mentionnées et d'obtenir les publications auxquelles ils s'intéressent. L'industrie du travail du bois, qui offre de grandes possibilités aux pays en développement, est fort diversement développée suivant les pays. Il faut donc créer ou moderniser des scieries, et équiper les ateliers de menuiserie et de charpenterie et les fabriques de meubles de machines et d'outils qui conviennent le mieux aux conditions locales. Au cours des 30 dernières années, les machines et le matériel utilisés pour la production primaire et secondaire ont connu des perfectionnements énormes. , L'ONUDI a consacré de nombreux séminaires, journées d etudes et programmes d'assistance technique à ce secteur. Elle fournit aussi des services consultatifs pour la création d'entreprises industrielles dans les pays en développement.

La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo Industrial (ONUDI) promueve la utilización de información industrial en los países en desarrollo proporcionando orientación para el mejoramiento de los servicios locales de información. Uno de los medios de promoción que emplea la ONUDI consiste en compilar guías de fuentes básicas de información sobre ramas de la industria de especial interés para los países en desarrollo. La presente guía, que yrata de la industria de la maquinaria para trabajar la madera, es la trigésima primera de la serie Guías de Guentes de Información (UNIDO/LIB/SER.D) que publica la ONUDI. La lista de las guías publicadas hasta la fecha figura en el anverso de la contratapa de la presente guía; se prevé la publicación de muchas guías más en esta serie. Estas guías no pretenden ser exhaustivas ni están destinadas a servir de instrumento de investigación; presentan, más bien, una selección de fuentes que se consideran de valor práctico para los usuarios. Los datos se han recopilado de un modo tal que faciliten el rápido acceso a las entidades mencionadas y la adquisición de las publicaciones que se indican.
