Cirque Du Soleil Michael Jackson ONE
Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson ONE Case Study Lightware Visual Engineering 1 Peterdy 15, Budapest H-1071, Hungary +36 1 255 3800 [email protected] www.lightware.com Cirque du Soleil – Michael Jackson ONE Market Country Rental & Staging USA Lightware Equipment Used in Project 1 - Lightware MX-FR65R frame 41 - Lightware fiber receivers 3 - Lightware fiber transmitters “I’m a perfectionist; it’s part of who I am,” Michael Jackson is purported to have said. Given the quality of his work and his reputation for high standards, the expectations for a show revolving around Michael Jackson will always be exceedingly high. Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson ONE, produced in conjunction with Jackson’s estate, aspires to meet the level of perfection the star would demand. The show, which combines Jackson’s music with Cirque’s distinctive acrobatic feats, is at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas in a space that was formerly occupied by a production of The Lion King; it was completely renovated specifically for MJ ONE. CDS anchored a team that included Auerbach Pollock Friedlander, Moser Architecture Studio, and Jaffe Holden Acoustics for the design and specification of the rigging and automation, lighting control, and audio-video systems. The show’s story line was written by choreographer Jamie King, who danced in Michael Jackson’s 1992 Dangerous World Tour. The musical director, Kevin Antunes (New Kids on the Block, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, Britney Spears, ‘N Sync, Justin Timberlake), made his selections from “Michael’s entire treasure vault” and remixed it specifically for the show. -

Cirque Du Soleil Shows and Destinations in 2008-2009
Case study: Tour Planning at Cirque du Soleil Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian entertainment company. It is the largest theatrical producer in the world. Its theatrical, character-driven approach and the absence of performing animals helped define Cirque du Soleil as the contemporary circus ("nouveau cirque") that it remains today. The case is about the opportunity for Cirque du Soleil management, to include in the tour a new destination, Istambul, in the summer 2010. The decision must be done before the end of 2008. 61 Case study: data and information Louise Murray, Vice-President, Tour Planning and Partnerships at Cirque du Soleil received on 23th December 2008 a proposal to include Istanbul, as destination, in the 2010 tour. “A wide range of administrative formalities and tasks must be accomplished to ensure the transfer of material and people to a new show site. The tearing down, repacking, shipping and setting up must all be done in a very precise order. And because each move is to a new site, often in a new country, the experience is unique every time. A technical problem, customs difficulties, a breakdown or bad weather conditions can all lead to costly delays, sometimes even forcing the cancellation of shows.” 62 Case study: data and information “Our shows are not produced independently of each other. A synergy must emerge between these different cultural works. We can see them as a strategic portfolio of cultural products. Ideally, we would be able to present several touring shows in succession in a large city in order to establish our reputation, build an audience and open the way for the establishment of a permanent show. -

Cirque Du Soleil Returns to Portaventura World with Their Show “Varekai”
Cirque du Soleil returns to PortAventura World with their show “Varekai” PortAventura World is the only European resort to offer performances by Cirque du Soleil. The Canadian circus company’s tent will be pitched at PortAventura World from 6th July to 13th August. Varekai tells the story of the Greek myth of Icarus, reinterpreted by the creators of Cirque du Soleil, which has already captivated millions of people around the world. PortAventura, 4th July 2017. - On 6th July, the iconic big top of the Canadian circus company will open its doors and stay on site at PortAventura World over July and August. During this time there will be twice-daily performances at 18:00 and 21:30, making PortAventura World the only European resort to offer visitors the opportunity to experience a Cirque du Soleil show. Varekai tells the story of a solitary young man who falls from the sky and lands in the shadows of a magic forest – a kaleidoscopic world full of exotic creatures where he embarks on an extraordinary adventure. Varekai, which means “wherever”, pays homage to the nomadic spirit, to the soul, and to the art of the circus tradition as well as to the infinite passion of those who seek the path that leads to this special place. In Varekai, the impossible becomes possible thanks to impressive demonstrations of skill accompanied by innovative music and lively choreography in supernatural settings. An international cast consisting of over 50 artists and musicians is the soul of the show. This successful collaboration between the two companies began with Kooza in 2014 and continued with Amaluna in 2015. -
