    OCEANIA REGION UMPIRE ACTIVITY REPORT TO THE 2011 ISF CONGRESS, OKLAHOMA, USA By Oceania Regional Coordinator Wayne Saunders Executive Summary Oceania is geographically spread over both the Northern and Southern hemispheres and has no regular historic regional competition. With more frequent ISF World Championship qualifiers there is a realistic opportunity for more regular international competition. However with the restriction of appointing only ISF certified umpires to ISF World Championship qualifiers there is little opportunity for umpires outside of Australia and New Zealand to be assigned. In Oceania there is a real need to revert back to allowing competing National Federations the right to select a suitably capable umpire to be assigned to ISF regional competitions. Communications With such a widely dispersed membership there is much reliance on electronic communications and access to training material available through ISF UmpSchool. The identification of an Umpire-in-Chief in more National Federations has provided the opportunity to increase direct communications with and between umpiring programmes. SKYPE video conferencing - Bob Stanton participated in the pitching presentation to the 2010 SNZ National Umpire Staff meeting and again at the 2011 meeting where current ISF umpiring matters were discussed with both the New Zealand and Australian National Umpiring Staff’s. Activity reports were received from Australia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand and are attached. Pacific Games Softball was not included in the 2011 Pacific Games held in New Caledonia. The 2015 games to be hosted by Papua New Guinea will see a strong push by the hosts for softball to be reinstated. Regional Exchanges The Trans Tasman umpire exchange between Australia and New Zealand continues.

The division continued its facilitation role in policy, legislation and planning development.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Monday, March 8th 2021 CELEBRATING WOMEN IN SPORT The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) has paid homage to Women in Sport on International Women’s Day by highlighting women in leadership positions, women’s efforts at the Games and promoting the work the organisation does in the area of gender equality. Sport is one of the most powerful platforms for promoting gender equality and in empowering women and girls. Off the field, much has been garnered about PNG women’s growth in leadership positions in sports. Since 2016 - 2020 there has been a 60% female representation on the PNGOC Board. As of 2020 that number is currently on 40%. Within the organisation itself, 60% of employed staff comprise of women headed by the Secretary General Mrs Auvita Rapilla, who is also PNG and the Pacific's first female International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member and sits on four IOC Commissions. Apart from the Secretary General there are other prominent women in sport who hold influential leadership positions. Karo Lelai, the current President of the PNG Basketball Federation is also the Association of National Olympic Committee Athlete Commission Chair and Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) Athlete Commission Chair. Tamzin Wardley, was awarded an MBE in 2020 in recognition of her services to Sports Administration in PNG. In addition, Tamzin has previously served on the PNGOC Board as Treasurer, and is a current Executive on the Pacific Games Council as Vice President of Finance. Throughout the years there have been many esteemed women who have held the title of Chef de Mission to the respective games attended by Team PNG.

We have hosted 2 Micronesian Games, 1 Mini Pacific Games and 10 Belau National Games. In addition, have participated and send over 1000 athletes abroad to represent Palau in various regional and internation- al sporting events such as the 2002 Micronesian Games in Pohnpei, FSM, 2003 South Pacific Games in Fiji, 2006 Micronesian Games in CNMI, 2007 Pacific Games in Samoa, 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia, 2014 Microne- sian Games, and just recently the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, PNG. Palau has participated in all the Summer Olympic Games since 2000. Palau National Olympic Committee and the respective National Sports Federations would not have been able to achieve these many milestones without the unwavering support of the Palau National Government and the many sponsors and donors, families, coaches, athletes and key individuals who all have continued their committed full support to the nu- merous programs and development of sports in Palau. The 15th Pacific Games sees Palau’s seventh appearance in a competition encompassing the 24 member countries of the Oceania Region including Australia and New Zealand.

  • GRFU (Rugby) Selection Criteria for 2011 PG
    2011 PACIFIC GAMES NEW CALEDONIA NAME OF FEDERATION Overview: The Guam Rugby Football Union (GRFU) will be nominating a Women’s Rugby Sevens team to the Guam National Olympic Committee (GNOC) for the 2011 Pacific Games to be held in Noumea, New Caledonia from the 27th of August until the 10th of September 2011. Preliminary indications are that the Women’s rugby tournament may be held on Tuesday, August 30 and Wednesday, August 31. The Initial selection process for Women’s Rugby will include any members of the Union and its affiliated clubs or individual members of the Union who apply for consideration to join the team. Athletes will be selected by the Selection Committee and the head coach based on their previous outstanding performances and/or recognition at a) international tournaments, b) Budweiser Rugby Series or other Competition matches and c) in the development training program. Each applicant must fill out the required application forms provided to them by the GRFU and must meet the requirements set out by the Union and the GNOC. Each athlete is required to participate in the fundraising efforts to send Team Guam to the Games. Eligibility: To be eligible for selection, an athlete must meet the Residency Guidelines as set forth by the GNOC. The Residency Guidelines will be handed out to each athlete who indicates an interest in applying for this team. Athletes must have previous playing experience in a sanctioned rugby competition. Each athlete must be a paid and registered member of a club affiliated with the Guam Rugby Football Union and/or a paid registered player.
