She first discovered the carillon at Stanford, and then went on to further study the instrument at The Netherlands Carillon School. She has held many positions within the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America. She received both her bachelor's in music and master's in education from Stanford University (Stanford, California, United States), and then a second master's --this time in music -- from University of California, Riverside. She first discovered the carillon at Stanford, and then went on to further study the instrument at The Netherlands Carillon School (Amersfoort, Netherlands/see AACF -- NLAF -- Ne). Some of her teachers included James B. Angell, Lowell Smith, and Jacques Lannoy. She taught organ and carillon at the University of Michigan School of Music (Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States) from 1987-2003. In 2008, she began teaching at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Halsted was the Secretary of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America from 1970-1974, editor of the Carillon News from 1980-1994, chair of the Membership Enrichment committee in 1993 , and now chairs the Associate Carillonneur Examination committee. She also was a delegate from the GCNA to the World Carillon Federation from 1990-1993. She was awarded the 'Certificate of Extraordinary Service' by the GCNA in 1995.     Directory of Carillons 2014 The Guild of Carillonneurs in North America Foreword This compilation, published annually by the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA), includes cast-bell instruments in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The listings are alphabetized by state or province and municipality. Part I is a listing of carillons. Part II lists cast- bell instruments which are activated by a motorized mechanism where the performer uses an ivory keyboard similar to that of a piano or organ. Additional information on carillons and other bell instruments in North America may be found on the GCNA website, http://gcna.org, or the website of Carl Zimmerman, http://towerbells.org. A carillon is a musical instrument consisting of at least two octaves of carillon bells arranged in chromatic series and played from a keyboard permitting control of expression through variation of touch. A carillon bell is a cast bronze cup-shaped bell whose partial tones are in such harmonious relationship to each other as to permit many such bells to be sounded together in varied chords with harmonious and concordant effect.

  • Joanne Droppers Collection Biography Joanne Was Born In
    Joanne Droppers Collection Biography Joanne was born in Ithaca, NY, on March, 29, 1932, the youngest child of Walter C. and Minnie W. Muenscher. She graduated from Cornell University in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in music. It was at Cornell that she met and dated Garrett Droppers, who sang in the choir she directed. They were married in August 1953. She originally came to Alfred in 1961, when Garrett was appointed a professor of history at Alfred University. The couple had lived in Madison, WI, and Orono, ME, before settling in Alfred. In addition to being a housewife and mother to their three children, Joanne was employed periodically as an administrative assistant. Joanne loved playing piano and singing with her family. She was organist for several Episcopal congregations, a hand bell ringer, and played violin in local community orchestras. In 1976, she became a member of the American Guild of Carillonneurs and in 1977 she was appointed carillonneur for Alfred University, a position she held for 17 years. As Alfred University carillonneur, Joanne toured the United States and Canada, performing on many North American carillons. She also composed and arranged a number of songs for carillon, including Bach’s Suite #11 for Lute and Tubular Bells. One of her favorite tunes was the Oscar Meyer Weiner jingle, which she arranged for carillon and played at Alfred’s annual Hot Dog Day celebration. Garrett Droppers predeceased Joanne in 1986, and after her retirement in 1994, she moved to Arlington, VA, to be near her grandsons. While in Virginia, she continued her musical pursuits by playing carillons in the area.

EC 1.Opening President Boogert greets the members of the EC and Rombouts, and officially opens the meeting. EC 2. Review of the Minutes At this moment only the EC I Minutes of 2 August 1996 have to be reviewed. In the list of WCF Delegates 1996 Ann-Kirstine Christiansen is mentioned as a delegate of the NSCK. She was not the official delegate, but represented Arne Lindgren, who was unable to attend the meetings. Motion passed: The 1996 EC I Minutes are accepted. EC 3. World Congress 1998 Rombouts reveals the plans for the Congress. Before the congress several organized carillon trips will take place from Monday (August 3) till Saturday (August 8). An application form will be send in April 1998. The organisation of these trips includes transporation. Most carillons can be played by the visitors. The qualifying round for the Queen Fabiola Competition will take place on Wednesday (August 5). The final rounds are planned for August 7, 8 and 9. The opening session of the WCF-congress is also scheduled for this day. Everyone agrees upon the dates for the EC and IC meetings: - Friday, August 7 (14:00-17:00) - IC meeting, session I.
