Principal’s Message:

Dear HBT Parents,

With the second semester well under way, we want to thank everyone for your continued support of our students, teachers, and school as we collectively strive to provide optimal opportunities for learning each and every day.

The HBT Staff and PTO have planned many exciting events for the month of February:

On February 10th, the PTO is having their annual Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. This is a great opportunity to get out and have a hot breakfast with family and friends, while being waited on by the HBT staff! The restaurant will be open only to HBT, so it will be lots of fun! Be sure to buy your tickets in advance through the PTO.

On February 13th, we will have Chris Fascione here for assemblies all day with the students. Click HERE for more information on his exciting performances!

February 14th, students will be able to exchange Valentine’s Day cards with their classmates (we do not have class parties for Valentine’s Day).

Then, on February 27th, we will have our annual Open House/Literacy Night. This is a fun event for the whole family, allowing parents to see their child’s classroom and to participate in a variety of literacy games and events. We hope to see you all there!

Sincerely,

Carrie Ahlstedt

Terrific Twisters

We are dedicated to continuing to provide a positive, caring, and safe learning environment for all students. We want our students to have pride in themselves and their school; therefore, when they are showing great behavior and demonstrating kindness, respect, fairness and responsibility, students will be recognized for their behavior and earn a Twister Ticket from any teacher or staff member in the building who has witnessed the behavior. Tickets will be placed into their classroom Twister bins. At the end of each month, your child’s classroom teacher will draw one boy and one girl from their classroom Twister Ticket bin. Students that are chosen will earn a Terrific Twister Certificate and their picture on the Terrific Twister Wall of Fame. At the end of each month, each classroom teacher will empty their classroom bin into a large Twister Ticket holder in the library. As a school, we will be working towards monthly goals which are marked on the Twister Ticket holder. If the monthly goal is met, the whole school will earn the monthly incentive.

Curriculum Corner

5th Grade

5th grade has been investigating the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt. Students are currently working in groups to understand the daily life of Ancient Egyptian social classes. They are conducting research, planning, analyzing, and creating a dramatic presentation to teach their peers about their assigned social group. WE ROCK IN 5TH!

4th Grade

The 4th grade students at HBT started their energy unit in science. They started with a quick refresher on the invisible force of magnetism to help them begin to understand electrical energy. Students were challenged to find a way to convert electrical energy into light energy with “Sparky’s Light Kit”. Students worked in teams to explore different ways to coax the stored energy in a battery out to illuminate a light bulb!

3rd Grade

For the entire second quarter, third grade focused on utilizing nonfiction text features to better understand the world around them. We focused on becoming experts by researching various topics and analyzing the information provided in the text features. As a culminating project, the students created a lapbook about themselves using each of the nonfiction text features they learned.
