Dergi etnomüzikoloji alanında yapılan nitelikli araştırmaları yayınlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Yayınlanan makaleler, etnomüzikoloji ve ilgili alanlarda güncel teorik bakış açılarını ve araştırmaları içerir. Etnomüzikoloji Dergisi yılda iki (2) kez yayınlanmaktadır. Derginin ya- yın dili Türkçe ve İngilizcedir. Dergi içerisinde etnomüzikoloji, müzikoloji ve ilgili diğer disiplinlerde orijinal araştırmalara dayalı teorik makaleler, yük- sek lisans tezlerinden makaleler, röportajlar, yayınlanan kitaplar ve müzik kayıtları hakkındaki makalelerin yer alması hedeflenmektedir. Daha önce ya- yınlanmış makalelerin tercümeleri dikkate alınmamaktadır. Katkıda bulu- nanların derneğin üyesi olması gerekmemektedir. Makale ve röportajlar, der- ginin daha önce ilan edilmiş temasına uygun olmalıdır. Dergiye gönderilecek yazılar, dernek sayfasında yer alan yazı kurallarına uymak zorundadır. Der- giye gönderilen yazılar çift taraflı kör hakem yöntemi ile incelenmektedir. Makalelerin editörlük süreci ise şu şekildedir: Editör ve editör kurulu (genel), teknik editör (yazı kuralları), hakemler (içerik), editör ve yazı kurulu (nihai karar). Yazma kurallarına uymayan yazılar, teknik editör incelemesinden sonra düzeltilmesi için yazara gönderilebilir. Dergide yayınlanan metinlerin telif hakkı Etnomüzikoloji Derneği'ne ait- tir. Yazarlar yazılarını gönderdiklerinde bu kuralı kabul etmiş sayılırlar. Dergimiz, Asos İndex tarafından taranmaktadır. About Journal As the peer-reviewed scientific journal Ethnomusicology Journal (Tur- key) published by Association of Ethnomusicology which is a non-profit or- ganization in Turkey. Journal aims to publish advanced researches in the eth- nomusicology field. Its articles represent current theoretical perspectives and research in ethnomusicology and related fields. Ethnomusicology Journal has been published two times a year. The pub- lication language of the journal is Turkish and English. The journal can inc- lude ethnomusicology and in other branches of musicology are articles on the basis of original research-based or theoretical articles, articles from post- graduate theses, interviews, reviews about published books and music recor- dings. Translations of previously published articles are not considered. Cont- ributors do not have to be members of the association. Articles and interviews should be in accordance with the previously announced theme of the journal. Writings to be submitted to the journal must comply with the following wri- ting rules. Writings sent to the journal will be examined with double-blind peer-reviewing system. The editorial order of the manuscripts is as follows: Editor in Chief and editorial board (general), technical editor (writing rules), referees (content), Editor in Chief and editorial board (final decision). Any manuscript that does not comply with the writing rules can be sent to the author for correction after a technical editor review. Written articles that are found to be corrected can be re-evaluated. The copyright of the texts publis- hed in the journal belongs to the Association of Ethnomusicology. Altıncı sayı, bir önceki sayıda olduğu gibi etnomüziko- loji disiplinin kendi içindeki tartışmaları, yeni yaklaşımları, alan kavramı ve alan araştırması ile ilgili yeni metot önerilerinin uygulanmaya çalışıldığı eski- yeni alan çalışmalarına çağrıda bulundu. Yalnızca etnomüzikologlara değil, yakın disiplinlerden de makalelerin değerlendirmeye alındığı altıncı sayıda, Etnomüzikoloji Derneğinin “Dünyada ve Türkiye’de Etnomüzikolojinin Dünü, Bugünü, Yarını” temalı, 29-30 Mayıs 2020 tarihleri arasında düzenle- diği çevrimiçi etnomüzikoloji sempozyumu açılış konuşmacısı (keynote) Prof. Dr Jeff Todd TITON’nun “Within Ethnomusicology, Where Is Ecomu- sicology? Music, Sound, and Environment” başlıklı yaklaşımları üzerine kri- tik yaptığı sunum da yer almakta. Öncelikle belirtmek gerekir ki, 2020 yılının büyük global salgınının yan- sımaları birçok alanda olduğu gibi sosyal disiplinlerde fazlasıyla kendini gös- termektedir. Çalışma metodolojileri, veri toplama teknikleri, neden-sonuç ilişkileri sorgulamaları ve değişen yaşam biçimleri tüm sosyal bilimlerde ol- duğu gibi etnomüzikoloji özelinde de çeşitli tartışmalar ve araştırmaları önü- müze sermekte. Dünyada değişim anları ve yansımalarını müzik bağlamları üzerinden okuma refleksini hızlı bir şekilde göstermiş ve göstermekte olan etnomüzikoloji, mevcuda yönelik tespit, yorumlama, kayda geçirme ve uy- gun teorik çerçeve ile açıklamaya yönelik çalışmalara elinizdeki sayıda dikkat çekilmektedir. Feyzan Göher tarafından yapılan “Kültür Ürünlerinin Mekânsal Değişimi Sibirya Türklerinde Tarım ve Hayvancılık Kültüründen Müzik Kültürüne Geçen Çalgılar” isimli çalışma, Titon’un çizdiği kuramsal dünya ve kritiği destekler nitelikte bir içeriğe ve alan verilerine sahip olması ile önem arz eder.     Mohi Baha'ud-din Dagar मोही बाहाउिदन डागर . Life & Training Born into the illustrious Dagar family of Dhrupad musicians in 1970, Mohi Baha'ud-din first began his foray into Indian Classical Music at the early age of seven, training on the Sitar under the expert tutelage of his mother, Smt. Pramila Dagar. Once he'd finished three years of initial training, he received brief instruction on the Surbahar and was later introduced to the Rudra Veena by his father, Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar; a legendary Rudra Veena maestro and his uncle, Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar; a renowned Indian classical vocalist from whom he later also learnt vocal music. In 1990, Mohi Baha’ud-din received the Lakhanpal Foundation Fellowship for two years. He also received a two-year Fellowship in 1993 from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India. At the early age of twenty, Mohi Baha’ud- din formally stepped onto the stage and made his mark in the industry as a classical performer. Mohi Baha'ud-din is a unique artist who has played for diverse and varied audiences in India and across the world. A cross-platform performer, he has made regular appearances on television and radio networks. His music has been recorded by Music Today (India), Makars (France), Ragini Sutra (India), Sense World (London), and India Music Archives (USA). Mohi Baha'ud-din has also been invited to serve under Nana Shirgaokar Research Professorship at the University Of Goa for three years from 2013 to 2015. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had cleared their names in November. 59-year-old Ibrahim is the first Muslim to lead the internal intelligence agency of the country. A 1977-batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Ibrahim was appointed as OSD in the Intelligence Bureau last month. He today took over as its Director after incumbent Nehchal Sandhu retired yesterday. Joshi, who took over as RAW chief, is a 1976 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. He has earlier served as Special Secretary in the agency besides occupying other important positions. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet had approved Joshi's appointment for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, in place of present incumbent S.K. Tripathi, whose tenure completed on December 29. Y.V. Reddy to head 14th Finance Commission Former RBI Governor Y.V. Reddy will be the Chairman of 14th Finance Commission, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said on 2nd January. The Finance Commission has been asked to submit its report by October 31, 2014. Finance Commission, a constitutional body, is set up every five years. Besides other things, the Commission lays down principles governing the grants-in-aid to states and other local bodies for a five-year period beginning April 1, 2014.

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) “Music is a language with some meaning at least for the immense majority of mankind, although only a tiny majority of people are capable of formulating a meaning in it, and since it is the only language with contradictory attributes of being at once intelligible and untranslatable, the musical creator is a being comparable to the gods, and music itself the supreme mystery of the science of man, a mystery that all the various disciplines come up against and which holds the key to their progress.” Claude Levi-Strauss (1908-) North Indian classical vocal music (henceforth Hindustani music) is one of the richest musical systems in the world. Understandably, there exists a plethora of writing on the subject varying from traditional treatises on music and aesthetics, autobiographies and biographies of musicians, historical analysis of various forms, academic work on genres and gharanas apart from a large corpus of writing which aims to ‘introduce’ Hindustani music to the uninitiated audiences. In what follows, I have tried to keep in mind the uninitiated listener as well as the connoisseurs in the hope that that the uninitiated might find the information useful and the connoisseur might find some points worthy of consideration. Whether I have succeeded in this endeavour is another point altogether! After a brief discussion about the structure of Hindustani music, there is a detailed analysis of the two of the most prominent forms which are visible (or rather, audible) on the performance stage today – dhrupad and khayal.

    USTAD BAHA’UD-DIN DAGAR Baha’ud-din Dagar, son of the legendary Rudra Veena maestro Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, belongs to the 20th generation of the Dagar family and also the nephew of the renowned vocalist Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar. He started his training on the sitar under the tutelage of his mother Smt Pramila Dagar at the age of seven. After three years of initial training he went on to learn the Surbahar and then the Rudra Veena under his father.Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar . Since then he has been responsible for keeping the Dagar Vani style of Dhrupad alive on the Rudra Veena. While Baha’ud-din’s music clearly reflects the training he has received from his father, he has incorporated a personal dimension to the depth and exploration of the raga. The vocal training he has received from his uncle has helped him incorporate the Dhrupad syllables in the playing of the Rudra Veena. This gives a unique and precise sense of timing in the cutting of phrases while presenting the aalap, jor and the jhala. Acknowledging his responsibility in taking the Dhrupad tradition to future generations, Baha’ud-din teaches both, vocal and instrumental forms of music to students from different backgrounds in various parts of the country in India and also abroad. He firmly believes that teaching is integral to his own learning and growth as a musician. In 1990 Baha’ud-din received the Lakhanpal Foundation fellowship for two years. He received a two year Fellowship in 1993 from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, India.
