I was quite shocked when I found out that Dusty recorded versions of songs such as 's 'Ben' and 's 'I can see clearly now'.

Do you reckon that the original tapes of some of the unreleased songs still exist? If they do, then we may have more of Dusty's excellent music to look forward to!

Re: List of Dusty's Unreleased /Previously Unreleased Songs (#p43966) by paula » Thu Dec 30, 2010 2:37 pm Hi Danny, Do you realize that there are quite a few songs on that list that were released?...as extras on later editions of 'Dusty In ' and on 'Beautiful Soul" (a complilation of 'Cameo' & Longing') and you can still find these...especially DIM, though BS can be a difficult find but still out there. paula x

I doubt very much that Dusty ever recorded 'All You Need Is Love', especially as late as '89, as she avoided Beatles songs like the plague! As for 'Ben' - yeuch I do hope that she didn't. Rats to that one for sure The title 'Can't Give Up The Love I Feel For You' sounds like it's meant to be 'I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You' which is of course released. 'My Love Life Is A Disater' is the same song that Mary Wilson recorded. It's horrible so I hope I never hear Dusty sing it. Experience has made me very wary of such lists.

Another nice version indeed. I always liked Dusty doing South American / Brazilian stuff like Morning or Meditation - this song would have fit very well on the Dusty ... Definitely album.

Affection is a demo Miss Dusty recorded circa 1984. It's never been commercially available, but has circulated amongst fans for years. The whole song does not really exist. My friend did wonders with the clip and turned it into this.

Gosh, what a great memory. You are correct. The actual song is called 'Goodbye' and was written by Spike Milligan. So there is no longer a mystery. All songs on the list have been accounted for. Breakdown of the 8 songs 'found':

3 - parts only recorded/exist 1- issued 2 - found (one of which has been leaked) 2 - fate unknown

I do have your friend's fantastic remix of the song as well as the credits version. I think I may have gotten it from you! It's a shame there isn't a complete song, though. I also wish we could hear the 1980 version of I Don't Want to Hear it Anymore sound-effect free.

There's only a handful of her recordings I don't have. Most of them are on your list. I'd love to hear Midnight Sounds. I've searched the internet without success. If anyone has this, PLEASE upload it onto youtube. I did discover a couple of rare live recordings on youtube though, Deep Purple being one of them. Rich.x

Re Sweet Charlie Babe: although it's generally reported that Jackie Moore cut her vocal over Dusty's track with the vocal erased I have read an online posting from someone claiming to have been a Sigma Sound associate who was in at both ladies' sessions & he says that a new track was cut for Jackie to sing to. Obviously that's not substantive enough to trump the version of events reported by Paul Howes but I think there's at least a possibility that Dusty's vocal survived - although even if that's the case it's likely been lost if it hasn't surfaced by now.

Re: List of Dusty's Unreleased /Previously Unreleased Songs (#p45075) by edjames » Sun Jan 09, 2011 6:24 pm While I cannot verify that some of the previously unreleased tracks will appear on the forthcoming Universal CD/DVD box set, we may get one or two tracks.

As usual, my sources tell me Universal has been less than cooperative about what it thinks it has the rights too and despite proof of ownership, it is extrememly reluctant to even approach the subject of Dusty's recordings on other labels (eg,,,ABC.Dunhill). This includes video tracks, too! Jeez! What a !

That said, I am told work on the new box set is progressing and some of the tracks will be "spectacular."

i was hoping that "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" or a proper mix of "Affection" would've seen the light of the day, but since they avoided 14 entire years of Dusty's career like the plague (1973-1986) that didnt happen.

the two tracks from that period that did make it on the compilation (sneaking in the movie theme section) are "Give Me the Night" (1978) and "" (1980). Not the worst songs Dusty ever recorded but unlikely to be on anyone's 'absolute favorites' list, and neither are exactly representative of her best work during this period.

don't get me wrong Taylor...i actually love the song! Guess I was a bit rough on it, but look at it this way. Those are the ONLY two songs that represent that 13 year stretch. Not one song from Cameo, , or White Heat is included. That's really the point intended.

My guess though is that the White Heat outtake I've Loved You Somewhere Before will eventually get a release. If it was shortlisted for the Goin' Back boxed set there must be enough of a Dusty vocal to make it releasable, perhaps it just needs a bit of sympathetic mixing.

I think recordings like Ooh Child and Angels were originally considered too unfinished to salvage but with some effort good mixes were done.

Re: List of Dusty's Unreleased /Previously Unreleased Songs (#p135974) by Clive » Wed Oct 16, 2013 12:24 pm Just had an idea for the unreleased 1970 track Black Sheep. From Complete DS we know that Dusty only recorded a couple of lines of the lyrics but that it was a catchy song.

If the tapes were given to a producer with the right sensibility (I have in mind ) to let him build a contemporary hit around it , could see Dusty high in the charts again with a new song.

Look what did with Dusty's unfinished take on "Corner of the Sky". Perhaps the idea needs to be planted into the ear of Mark Ronson or the like. He in particular would capture a great throw-back type of production. He transformed the Zutons' "Valerie" (though significant credit must be shared with Winehouse for delivering the wonderful vocal).

After "Corner of the Sky" was left off the Beautiful Soul compilation due to incomplete vocals, not even its original producer Brooks Arthur imagined a singer would unearth it, fill-in the missing vocals style, and make it releasable.
