County While the County's metrics continue to remain low and stable, there continues to be COVID-19 transmission in California, particularly among those who are not fully vaccinated. For that reason, the State will be keeping its current masking guidance until June 15, and L.A. County will do the same and remain in alignment with the Los Angeles County Health Officer Order of May 3. It is important to note that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announcement last week was not meant to eliminate current safety modifications at local and state levels, and the CDC acknowledged the importance of maintaining local protections. Masks are still required for everyone at: • Large events, public transportation, retail, and business establishments • Workplaces (under Cal/OSHA masking/distancing requirements) Masks are still required for all unvaccinated people: • Outdoors anytime distancing cannot be maintained • Masks are still not required for fully vaccinated people: • Outdoors unless attending crowded events • Indoor and outdoor visits with other fully vaccinated people and with unvaccinated people from one household without high ris k people 6 DUSD Guidance to Staff Hello DUSD! I hope this email finds you well and getting ready to wrap up the school year! I wanted to share an update regarding Wearing of Masks. Recently the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people are now able to take off their masks indoors and outdoors. Here is a link to the complete guidance, https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html DUSD will continue to require the use of masks on all school campuses by all staff and students, regardless of their vaccine status, for the time being. The May 13, 2021, CDC guidelines state: Therefore, fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. The most recent LACDPH guidelines clearly state that we must wear masks. http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/docs/protocols/reopening_K12schools.pdf California Department of Public Health (CDPH), LADPH, and Cal-OSHA also still require social distancing and the use of masks. DUSD will continue to work with all public health agencies and update our policies appropriately and communicate them out. If you have any questions regarding masks or vaccines, please reach out to me. 7 DUSD Guidance To Families Dear Downey Unified Families, You may have heard the recommendations announced yesterday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) relaxing face covering guidelines for individuals fully vaccinated against COVID-19, suggesting they may be removed in most, but not all indoor and outdoor settings. While this is encouraging (and exciting), it’s important to remember that we are still required to comply with LA County Department of Public Health (LADPH) orders, which have not yet relaxed their requirements on face covering guidance for indoor settings or for schools. Until that time, all of our district facilities will continue to adhere to local requirements, which require the use of face coverings by ALL individuals while on school property. We will continue to monitor the LADPH guidance and will keep you updated on any changes that impact school operations. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Sincerely, Downey Unified School District 8 California governor says mask mandate to end after June 15 SACRAMENTO — California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday the nation’s most populous state would stop requiring people to wear masks in almost all circumstances on June 15, describing a world he said will look “a lot like the world we entered into before the pandemic.” “We’re not wearing face coverings. We’re not restricted in any way, shape or form from doing the old things that we used to do, save for huge, large-scale indoor convention events like that, where we use our common sense,” Newsom said in an interview with Fox 11’s Elex Michaelson. 9 Steps for Age 12-17 Vaccinations In order to be vaccinated, you will need to show: • Photo ID, and • Proof that you are age 12 or older. • [For minors age 12-17 only] A consent form. • One document can cover all requirements (e.g. Drivers license) • You do not need to show government issued ID and you do not need to be a US citizen to get a vaccine. You can view the required documentation here. • Public Health consent form: English | Español Consent forms are available at the vaccination site, or can be printed for free in LA County libraries. • If you are 12 to 17: • Look for a site that offers the Pfizer vaccine as that is the only vaccine authorized for 12 to 17-year-olds. You will be turned away if you go to a site that does not offer Pfizer. • For all minors age 12-17: a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian is required for both visits. • 16 and 17-year-olds should be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian if possible. • 12-15 year-olds must be accompanied by their parent, legal guardian, or a responsible adult. 10 Graduations/Promotions • All four middle schools held their promotion ceremonies at the feeder high schools. • The comprehensive high schools split their 2021 graduates between two nights (Wed & Thu) and class of 2020 (approx. 50%) was recognized on Friday night. • Columbus had graduation for the class of 2020 and 2021 on the same night (Tues 5/25). • Families were given 4 tickets to ensure proper social distancing and to keep attendees within household limitations. • All events were "livestreamed" to allow more family and friends to experience the ceremonies. 11 Middle School Promotion Livestream 12 High School Graduation Livestream 13 Summer No change in guidance expected after June 15.
