At Morning Sky Greenery, we take care to produce high quality native plants that adapt easily to harsh environmental conditions. Our plants are not heavily forced for quick sales and mass market. Rather, they are carefully grown: hand watered & fertilized, acclimated and even overwintered to ensure their healthy growth when placed in a natural setting. We grow our plants using integrated pest management (IPM), which means that we use a variety of methods at our production facility to control insects and diseases. We do not rely on highly toxic chemical pesticides and herbicides to grow them. Our plants are grown in a variety of containers. The advantage of these container- grown plants is that they may be transplanted in the spring, summer, and fall. They may be kept in their own containers until you have the time to plant them. These plants are available in 6-packs (6 plants per pack) and 12 packs (12 plants per pack). They are also available in 3.5” & 5.5” pots. To find the sizes of individual plants, please look in the product columns of the plant list inside this catalog or on our website. If we do not carry a particular size you are interested in, we will custom grow large orders in the size pot you prefer. In our continuing efforts toward environmental stewardship, we wash and reuse pots from a variety of sources, so pot sizes may, in some cases, vary slightly. Our plants are typically shipped to you through UPS or other major carrier. However, please inquire about special delivery of shoreline and other large projects. Pickups are welcome. We pride ourselves on individual customer service. Our dedicated, informed staff is happy to work with you to find the right plants for your individual needs. Ratibida species (Coneflowers) Rosa species (Prairie Rose) A Word About Monarchs Rudbeckia species (Black-eyed Susans) At Morning Sky Greenery we have had growing concern for both Monarchs Butterflies and Pollinators. We mentioned, over 15 years ago, in one of our earlier catalog issues, that “The Eastern North American population Silene regia (Royal Catchfly) of the Monarch Butterfly, which includes those that rest and feed in our area, are in serious trouble due to loss of Silphium species (Compass & Cup Plants) habitat. Many scientists believe that this population of butterflies may completely disappear in 10 years.” It has Solidago species (Goldenrods) been over 10 years now and we are getting closer to this being a reality! A recent Census disclosed by Mexico’s Verbena species (Blue & Hoary Vervains) National Commission of Natural Protected Areas, supports that there has been a staggering reduction in the Vernonia fasciculata (Ironweed) number of Monarch Butterflies over the past several years. The same habitat loss is also in part Veronicastrum virginicum (Culver’s Root) responsible for the decline in the number of healthy Pollinators. Zizia species (Golden Alexanders) It has been Morning Sky Greenery’s ongoing mission to help rejuvenate the Monarch Butterfly Grasses and Pollinator population by planting and encouraging people to plant Milkweed and other native Andropogon gerardii (Big Bluestem) plants to provide nutrition and habitat for them. Please plant the following native wildflowers to Bouteloua species (Grama grasses) provide nutrition for the Monarch Butterflies that rest and feed in our region. These will also Schizachyrium scoparium (Little Bluestem) support our pollinators! Also plant native grasses trees, shrubs and vines to provide shelter, Sorghastrum nutans (Indian Grass) habitat and resting areas for all of them.
