Supply of Mahua flower to individual units is controlled by the State Excise Department. Mo hua flower is fermented in 200 litre barrels with water and spent wash, which takes about 3 to 5 day depending on atmospheric temperature. After fermentation is complete, the fermented Mohua along with the liquid in the barrel is transferred into copper ve ssels for cooking. Rice husk is generally used as the fuel for the purpose. After cooking, the vapour s pass thro ugh a water cooling system, get condensed and is collected in vessels. The same condensed liquid is the country liquor. Dilution by water is don e as per market requirement. Then it is transferred to the packing section to pack in poly pouches. The entire process is controlled by St ate Excise Department. After coo ling and condensation process is over, some liquid and mohua residues are left in the cooking vessel. This is transferred outside to filter out the liquid, called as ‘spent wash’, which has some liquor content and is used in the fermentation barrels to facilitate the fermentation process. No spent wash was found to be thrown out in the abov e units. The mohua residue and husk ash are solid wastes generated in the units and are reportedly taken by farmers for using in cultivation. Waste water is generated from periodical washing of the fermentation barrels, cooking vessel and the floors. It is estimated that such waste water generation can be maximum 500 litres to 1000 litres per day in one unit. In the entire process of production of country liquor, there is no use of any ail or chemical. Therefore, there is no chance of generation of any haza rdous waste like waste oil, oily sludge and oil containing materials. Therefore, the envisaged generation of sludge from the ETP will not be hazardous in nature and can be used as manure similar to STP sludge . • A chimney of 6 meter height installed in the furnace to control the air pollution • The total quantity of 5 KL of water required for the plant sourced from bore well inside the plant premises. • From the process 0.356 or 356 kg of Mahua flower Residue and 0.296 TPD or 295.9 kg. of Husk Ash generated as solid waste . Also 3.7 KL of waste water generated from the unit per day from cooling process. • The waste water stored in settling tank for reuse in the plant • The solid waste mahua flower residue used for organic manure and the husk ash for brick making. • The green belt over 0.10 dec has developed in the area • The project cost is Rs. 10 ,00,000.00 .

  • Ground Water Year Book 2016-2017
Government of India CENTRAL GROUND WATER BOARD Ministry of Water Resources & Ganga Rejuvenation GROUND WATER YEAR BOOK 2016-2017 South Eastern Region Bhubaneswar September 2017 F O R E W O R D Groundwater is a major natural replenishable resource to meet the water requirement for irrigation, domestic and industrial needs. It plays a key role in the agrarian economy of the state. Though richly endowed with various natural resources, the state of Orissa has a long way to go before it can call itself developed. Being heavily dependent on rain fed agriculture; the state is very often exposed to vagaries of monsoon like flood and drought. The importance of groundwater in mitigating the intermittent drought condition of a rain-fed economy cannot be overemphasized. To monitor the effect caused by indiscriminate use of this precious resource on groundwater regime, Central Ground Water Board, South Eastern Region, Bhubaneswar has established about 1606 National Hydrograph Network Stations (NHNS) (open / dug wells) and 89 purpose built piezometres under Hydrology Project in the state of Orissa. The water levels are being monitored four times a year. Besides, to study the change in chemical quality of groundwater in time and space, the water samples from these NHNS are being collected once a year (Pre-monsoon) and analysed in the Water Quality Laboratory of the Region. The data of both water level and chemical analysis are being stored in computers using industry standard Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) like Oracle and MS SQL Server. This is very essential for easy retrieval and long-term sustainability of data.
