The health, safety and well-being of those working in and visiting our operations continues to be one of our major priorities. To this end we have developed health and safety policies across our operations with operational systems and procedures designed to ensure that we meet the highest possible standards of safety management. In 2006 we adopted the Holcim passion for safety initiative which initially required us to reduce our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) by 30% over the figure we achieved in 2004. We achieved that target, recording a reduction from 9.81 to 6.12 by the end of 2006. Our ongoing target is to achieve an annual 30% In the UK, the Stern Report clearly stated that the cost improvement until our LTIFR is at or below 2. of taking action now will be far less than the cost of delaying our response.
