NEGRONI NAVY PIER When it opened to the public in 1916, Navy Pier was the largest pier in the world. Built by architect Daniel Burnham as part of the plan of Chicago, it was created for cargo shipping as well as a public entertainment site. In the 1920s, the pier was a summer playground, with recreational facilities that included picnicking areas, playgrounds, dining and dance halls. WATER TOWER MARGARITA (MAKE IT AN ULTIMATE - 16) The Chicago Water Tower on Michigan Avenue was an original water pump station intended to draw water from Lake Michigan. ADLER’S AMARETTO In 1930, a senior officer and early stockholder with Sears, Roebuck and Company had learned of a mechanism in Europe that could dramatically replicate the night skies. OLD CAPONE Chicago was considered a lively place during prohibition, complete with notorious gangsters and speakeasies. The city had hundreds of bars that remained open in the 1920s, with blank storefronts and secret side entrances. BLACK SOX OLD FASHIONED Notably one of the biggest scandals in the history of baseball, the 1919 Chicago White Sox lost the series to the Reds. Eight players were indicted of intentionally throwing games in exchange for money from gamblers. Even though all eight players were eventually acquitted of their charges, Kenesaw Landis, the first commissioner of baseball, banned them for life. One of the most well-known of these eight players was “Shoeless” Joe Jackson. The 1989 film Field of Dreams, based on the novel by W.P. Kinsella, examined the scandal and featured two of the players: “Shoeless” Joe (played by Ray Liotta) and Eddie Cicotte (played by Steve Eastin).
