Built by architect Daniel Burnham as part of the plan of Chicago, it was created for cargo shipping as well as a public entertainment site. In the 1920s, the pier was a summer playground, with recreational facilities that included picnicking areas, playgrounds, dining and dance halls. It is named in honor of the naval personnel that served there during WWI. Bombay, Martini & Rossi Sweet Vermouth, Campari AQUA COSMO TOWER Aqua Tower is one of the latest skyscrapers to grace the Chicago skyline. Designed by Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang, Aqua is the largest project ever awarded to an American firm headed by a woman. Her sculptural design was inspired by the striated limestone outcroppings common in the Great Lakes area. Built with sustainability in mind, it boasts rainwater collection systems and the largest green roof in Chicago. Designed by the architectural firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, it used the shape of the Giralda tower of Seville’s Cathedral combined with French Renaissance details. At its time, it was the first building in Chicago to offer air conditioning. Built for Sox team owner Charles Comiskey and designed by Zachary Taylor Davis, Comiskey Park was very modern for its time. It was built in 1869 by architect William W. Boyington from yellowing Joliet limestone. The tower gained prominence after The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 as it was the only public building in the burned zone to survive. In the years since the fire, the tower has become a symbol of old Chicago and the city’s recovery from the fire. Max Adler and his wife traveled to Germany to examine this far-fetched instrument. Adler was so intrigued, he became determined to donate a generous portion of his fortune to a public facility that would benefit the future generations of Chicagoans. In 1938, the Adler Planetarium became the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere. The city had hundreds of bars that remained open in the 1920s, with blank storefronts and secret side entrances. A few speakeasies and mob hangouts, like John Barleycorn’s and The Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, are still in business today. It was estimated that Al Capone, Chicago’s most famous gangster, bootlegger and crime boss, raked in $60 million alone on alcohol sales in 1927. Known for his ‘conscious-style’ of rapping, he creates music with a message that’s experimental and draws from an eclectic mix of genres and styles. He is considered a beacon of light in the world of hip hop. Hendrick’s, Sugar, Lemon Juice, Cranberry Juice THE BLUE LINE The Blue Line, also known as the O’Hare-Congress line is 19.5-Mile long. Chicago ‘L’ line which extends through the loop from O’Hare International Airport at the far northwest end of the city, through downtown via the Milwaukee-Dearborn Subway, and across the West Side to its southwest end at Forest Park. It is the CTA’s second busiest rail line, with an average of 186,796 passengers boarding each weekday.
