Roads and Maritime Services | June 2019 Night work on the Illawarra Highway, Albion Park Rail We will be carrying out essential night work on the Illawarra Highway as part of the Albion Park Rail bypass over the next month. What are we doing? We will be relocating utility services and widening a section of the northbound shoulder lane on Illawarra Highway. Work will include trenching, saw cutting, excavation, installing new conduits, fitting valves and pipes, backfilling, laying asphalt and reinstating ground surfaces. Work is required outside normal project hours for the safety of road users, bypass workers and to avoid extended traffic delays. This work will be carried out for around 20 nights over eight weeks from Thursday 20 June between 7pm and 6am, weather permitting. Electronic signs on the highway will advertise specific dates and detour information in advance. We will make every effort to minimise disruption including noise and light by scheduling noisier activities earlier in the night, using noise shields where possible and positioning equipment away from properties where possible. Traffic impacts While some of this work will be carried out during the day, resulting in temporary closure of the shoulder lane, some of this work will require closure of the Illawarra Highway at night. During closures motorists will be detoured via the Princes Highway and Tongarra Road. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of detour signs and traffic control.
