The existing pavements for both the Interstate 80 and Interstate 88 projects were 8-inch thick continuously reinforced concrete pavements. The Interstate 80 rehabilitation was designed as a 4-inch thick plain concrete overlay. This project includes six experimental sections using various percentages of microsilica added to the standard mix design. In addition, microsilica grout was used as a bonding agent between the original pavement and the new bonded concrete overlay in some sections.
