The new Ministry will be sworn in on Wednesday the 29th of May. Cabinet Changes - Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie will be Australia’s first female Agriculture Minister - The Hon Sussan Ley MP will move back into Cabinet as Environment Minister replacing the Hon Melissa Price MP - The Hon Ken Wyatt MP will move to Cabinet as the first Indigenous Minister for Indigenous Australian’s replacing retiring Senator the Hon Nigel Scullion - The Hon Alan Tudge will move to Cabinet and will retain his previous role as Minister for Population, Cities and Urban Infrastructure - The Hon Stuart Robert will move to Cabinet and serve a new role as Minister for NDIS and Minister for Government Services - Senator Anne Ruston will move to Cabinet and become Minister for Families and Social Services replacing Minister the Hon Paul Fletcher MP - The Hon David Littleproud MP will move to a new role as Minister for Water Resources, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster & Emergency Management - The Hon Angus Taylor MP will retain Energy and will add Emissions Reduction to the portfolio - The Hon Greg Hunt MP will retain the Health portfolio and will also serve as the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service & Cabinet - The Hon Paul Fletcher MP will move to the new portfolio of Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts replacing outgoing Minister Senator the Hon Mitch Fifield - The Hon Christian Porter MP retains his role as Attorney-General and will add Industrial Relations to his portfolio. We campaign for properly funded, high quality, independent, ethical, and free public media in Australia. We promote excellence across all platforms through education, mentoring, public forums and scholarships. The selection of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Board and Managing Director must be free of political favouritism. Funding for the ABC must be guaranteed. We welcome this inquiry into ‘allegations of political interference in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’. It is vitally important that the Senate committee establishes the detail; the who, what, where and, most importantly, why of Managing Director Michelle Guthrie’s dismissal and Board Chair Justin Milne’s subsequent resignation. We are alarmed by the widely publicised allegations made by Ms Guthrie about the conduct of Mr Milne (and any possible complicity by Board directors; for example, was there a failure to act on the allegations when presented with them?). Ms Guthrie’s allegations if true, in whole or in part, clearly indicate that the current legislation and Chair/Board appointment processes fail to protect the ABC from overt and covert political interference. This makes the corporation vulnerable to punitive funding cuts that affect its ability to continue to provide the range and quality of fearless, independent broadcasting and online publishing for which it is known. These issues are fundamental to the important contribution the ABC makes to Australian society. In our view there is a need for amendments to the ABC Act and for changes to existing processes for the appointment of the Chair and Board directors.

METROPOLITAN REGION SCHEME AMENDMENT 1153/41 Statement by Leader of the House HON NORMAN MOORE (Mining and Pastoral — Leader of the House) [4.02 pm]: I would like to make a statement on behalf of the Minister for Child Protection representing the Minister for Planning. I present today for tabling metropolitan region scheme amendment 1153/41, which will facilitate the residential development of approximately 127 hectares of land in Caversham. The Department of Planning and Infrastructure and the City of Swan have been working in partnership to coordinate and achieve subregional planning for the Swan urban growth corridor. This amendment consolidates rather than extends the urban zone in this north east corridor, and a number of investigations have been undertaken in support of the amendment. It is proposed that development of the site will follow new urbanism principles of walkability and sustainability.
