Media Partners 2 Event Guide 22 March 2016 • Business Design Centre, London, UK Introduction Dear Friends, On behalf of the Programme Planning Group we are delighted to welcome you to the 11th ICSC European Outlet Conference. It has been 21 years since the very first designer outlet centre was opened in Europe by McArthurGlen’s Chairman, Joey Kaempfer, pioneering the concept of designer outlet retailing with the opening of Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet near the city of Manchester, United Kingdom, in 1995. Today, the outlet sector is thriving with more than 100 major outlets across Europe. Outlets have become institutional quality assets and the industry has grown consistently in spite of periods of economic dips and in parallel to the huge growth in online retail. With the theme “Creating Destinations” we seek to understand the importance of the ‘destination’ to deliver a compelling retail – and leisure – experience for our tourist shoppers. We will explore how outlet centre developers and operators are enticing consumers into more frequent and longer trips, and arm you with the tools you need to successfully attract, engage and meet the needs of the travelling luxury consumer and local tourists alike. We aim to inspire, challenge and empower outlet professionals as industry leaders share their insight and experience interspersed with plenty of opportunity for discussion and networking. For the first time, the European Outlet Conference is being held concurrently with SPREE Europe, Europe’s only conference focusing exclusively on commercialisation and specialty leasing. Attendees are welcome to attend sessions in both events according to their interest. ICSC Retail Connections takes place tomorrow here at the Business Design Centre – we hope to see a number of you there too. The European Outlet Conference Programme Planning Group is just one of a number of active committees and specialist working groups at ICSC, which focus on particular interests within the shopping centre industry. Many of the committees produce publications, undertake research projects, put together events and conduct other initiatives of interest to the membership. To find out more about the work of each of the committees, please see any of the ICSC team. We would like to thank all those involved in organising and speaking at our conference, together with special thanks to our ICSC Partners and Event Sponsors. We are confident the Conference will be a fruitful and enjoyable experience for all our delegates and we look forward to welcoming you to London.
