The American Trend of Female Pubic Hair Removal: Exploring A
THE AMERICAN TREND OF FEMALE PUBIC HAIR REMOVAL: EXPLORING A POPULAR CULTURE BODY MODIFICATION by BETH A. WEIGLE (Under the Direction of José Blanco F.) ABSTRACT Various cultures have used constructed knowledge, social standards, and aesthetic preferences to determine how to manipulate and treat each type of hair on a person‟s body, including pubic hair. Depilation and/or trimming of pubic hair, increasingly being used by contemporary western cultures, could be considered a highly normative practice (Toerien, Wilkinson & Choi, 2005). The purpose of this study was to explore factors that influence the recent development of American women‟s decision to depilate and/or trim the pubic region. Twenty American women between the ages of 18 and 57 participated in an online survey. Data was analyzed using a grounded theory approach, which consisted of a two-step process involving coding and memo- writing. The study determined that depilation of pubic hair is a growing practice amongst American women. This change in pubic hair grooming practices is related with an increased presence of pubic hair discussion among individuals as well as in popular culture. Forensic Human Hair Examination Guidelines
Forensic Human Hair Examination Guidelines Scientific Working Group on Materials Analysis (SWGMAT April 2005 1. Introduction Hair examinations and comparisons, as generally conducted by forensic scientists, often provide important investigative and associative information. Human and animal hairs have been used in forensic investigations for over a century. Reports abound in the literature concerning the use of human and animal hairs encountered in forensic casework. These guidelines represent a recommended procedure for the forensic examination, identification, and comparison of human hair. Hairs are readily available for transfer, easily transferred, and resilient. Hair examination may be used for associative and investigative purposes and to provide information for crime scene reconstruction. The ability to perform a forensic microscopical hair comparison is dependent on a number of factors. These factors include the following: Whether an appropriate known hair sample is representative. The range of features exhibited by the known hairs. The condition of the questioned hair. The training and experience of the hair examiner. The usage of the appropriate equipment and methodology. DNA analysis can be performed on hair but should be performed only after an initial microscopical assessment. A full and detailed microscopical comparison with possible known sources of hair should be done prior to DNA analysis. Microscopical comparisons cannot always be done after DNA analysis, which is destructive to at least a portion of the hair. DNA analysis should always be considered in those cases when the source of a hair is crucial to an investigation. 2. Referenced Documents 2.1. Scientific Working Group on Materials Analysis. Depilation Services
4 Depilation Services We have already studied about hair discolouration technique, such as ‘bleaching’. In this Unit, we will study about two techniques of removing unwanted hair. The two techniques that are commonly used to remove unwanted hair are waxing and threading. TYPES OF HAIR A Beauty Therapist, providing treatment such as ‘waxing’ and ‘threading’, must understand the basic anatomy and physiology of hair. The different types of hair are as follows: • Scalp hair • Eyelashes • Body hair • Underarm and pubic hair Scalp hair: It acts as heat insulator and protects the head. Eyelashes: This is the hair present on the eyelashes. It prevents dust particles from entering the eye. Body hair: Present all over the body, it acts as heat insulator. Underarm and pubic hair: It provides cushion against friction caused by movement. HAIR GROWTH CYCLE On an average, hair grows 1.25 cm (½ inch) per month. It is estimated that we lose 80–100 hair per day on an average. A single strand of hair does not grow continuously throughout life. The stages of the life cycle of hair are as follows: • Anagen • Catagen • Telogen • Exogen Hair to fall out Dermal papilla New hair Anagen Catagen Telogen Return to anagen Early anagen Fig. 4.1: Hair growth cycle Anagen During this stage, the bulb regenerates, and then, produces a hair strand. This is the stage during which the hair follicle is active and the hair grows continuously. The stage lasts for 2–7 years. New hair in the early anagen stage grows faster than the old hair. The average growth being 1.25 cm per month. -
The Tanner Stages
Vermont Department of Health Health Screening Recommendations for Children & Adolescents The Tanner Stages Because the onset and progression of puberty are so variable, Tanner has proposed a scale, now uniformly accepted, to describe the onset and progression of pubertal changes (Fig. 9- I Preadolescent 24). Boys and girls are rated on a 5 point scale. Boys are rated for genital development and no sexual hair pubic hair growth, and girls are rated for breast development and pubic hair growth. Pubic hair growth in females is staged as follows (Fig 9-24, B): II Sparse, pigmented, long, straight, • Stage I (Preadolescent) - Vellos hair develops over the pubes in a manner not greater than that over mainly along labia the anterior wall. There is no sexual hair. and at base of penis • Stage II - Sparse, long, pigmented, downy hair, which is straight or only slightly curled, appears. These hairs are seen mainly along the labia. This stage is difficult to quantitate on black and white photographs, particularly when pictures are of fair-haired subjects. III • Stage III - Considerably darker, coarser, and curlier sexual hair appears. The hair has now spread Darker, coarser, curlier sparsely over the junction of the pubes. • Stage IV - The hair distribution is adult in type but decreased in total quantity. There is no spread to the medial surface of the thighs. • Stage V - Hair is adult in quantity and type and appears to have an inverse triangle of the classically IV Adult, but feminine type. There is spread to the medial surface of the thighs but not above the base of the decreased inverse triangle. -

Scrotal Rejuvenation
Open Access Review Article DOI: 10.7759/cureus.2316 Scrotal Rejuvenation Philip R. Cohen 1 1. Department of Dermatology, University of California, San Diego Corresponding author: Philip R. Cohen, [email protected] Abstract Genital rejuvenation is applicable not only to women (vaginal rejuvenation) but also to men (scrotal rejuvenation). There is an increased awareness, reflected by the number of published medical papers, of vaginal rejuvenation; however, rejuvenation of the scrotum has not received similar attention in the medical literature. Scrotal rejuvenation includes treatment of hair-associated scrotal changes (alopecia and hypertrichosis), morphology-associated scrotal changes (wrinkling and laxity), and vascular-associated scrotal changes (angiokeratomas). Rejuvenation of the scrotum potentially may utilize medical therapy, such as topical minoxidil and oral finasteride, for scrotal alopecia and conservative modalities, such as depilatories and electrolysis, for scrotal hypertrichosis. Lasers and energy-based devices may be efficacious for scrotal hypertrichosis and scrotal angiokeratomas. Surgical intervention is the mainstay of therapy for scrotal laxity; however, absorbable suspension sutures are postulated as a potential intervention to provide an adequate scrotal lift. Hair transplantation for scrotal alopecia and injection of botulinum toxin into the dartos muscle for scrotal wrinkling are hypothesized as possible treatments for these conditions. The interest in scrotal rejuvenation is likely to increase as men and their -

Sleeping Beauty Salon Limited Strip Wax Treatment Protocol
Sleeping Beauty Salon Limited Strip Wax Treatment Protocol This treatment protocol has been devised by your company trainer and salon management team to aid you in performing your waxing treatments to the highest standard for complete client satisfaction. This protocol should be followed carefully and should only be adapted or changed if doing so has been discussed with your manager. There may be a few instances where adaptations have to be made, a few examples may be: If a client has a contra-indication which causes you to do so At the client’s request i.e. missing out the middle of the eyebrows or missing out the middle of the top lip If a client has experienced lifting of the skin or has had a burn on the area previously If the client is particularly sensitive to tweezing and requests you not to do so These are a few examples of when adaptations can be made or requested. If this is whilst you are in a treatment then you may wish to use your initiative and go ahead with the adaptation. If at any point you are unsure as to whether to continue with the adaptation, consult a team leader/manager first. Any adaptations to treatments or requests made by a client should be noted on the client’s record card so that the next therapist who treats that client fully understands the adaptation made and what they should do in order to carry the treatment out in the same way. Please pay particular attention to those clients who have contra-indications to treatments. -

Sexual Health: Crabs (Pubic Lice)
Crabs (pubic lice) Information for patients This leaflet is for people who have been diagnosed with crabs (pubic lice). It explains how crabs may be contracted and how they are treated. What are crabs? Crabs (pubic lice) are small insects, which can live in body hair. They can be found in pubic hair, underarm hair, chest hair, on hairy legs and sometimes in beards. More rarely they may be seen on eyebrows and eyelashes. They are different to head lice but are usually treated with the same medication. Crabs live by sucking blood and lay eggs that stick on the hairs. After they have hatched, the egg case (called a 'nit') shows as a brown dot stuck to the hair. How can I tell if I have crabs? · You may have itching from an allergic (hypersensitivity) reaction to the bites. · You may see the crabs themselves or the egg cases (nits). The crabs are very small (about 2mm long) and yellow-grey coloured. · You may notice a fine black powder in your pants. This is the crabs' droppings. Sometimes there are small specks of blood as well. · Blue spots on your skin (caused by lice bites). · Sometimes there are no symptoms. How can I get crabs? They are passed on by close body contact, especially sexual contact. Using condoms does not protect you from crabs. It is also possible for them to be spread through sharing bedding, towels or clothing. They do not fly or jump, and can't be caught from hard surfaces such as toilet seats. How are they treated? · You can treat pubic lice yourself at home by using a special type of lotion, cream or shampoo that you may be given.
