Ashlyn and Caitlyn Baggett (2009, 2011-13)/ Jersey Retired During 2013-14 Season Ashlyn and Caitlyn Baggett became the first two women’s basketball players to have their jersey’s retired when their jerseys were dropped down from the rafters at Burton Coliseum during the 2013-2014 season, a year following their playing careers. During their careers, the Baggetts led McNeese to three consecutive postseason tournaments (2011, 2012 NCAA; 2013 WBI) as well as two Southland Conference Tournament titles (2011, 2012) and a regular season Southland Conference Title (2011). The two also earned Southland Conference Tournament MVP honors, Ashlyn in 2011 and Caitlyn in 2012. Both players were three-time All- Southland Conference picks as well as three-time All-Louisiana selections. The duo notched their names in the McNeese record books as both ended their careers ranked second and third in career scoring. Ashlyn ended her career ranked second in scoring with 2,053 points while Caitlyn was third with 1,674 points. Ashlyn is only the second player in McNeese history to score 2,000 career points and the first to make 300 career three-pointers. Each player owns career records as well. Ashlyn is the McNeese and Southland Conference career three point leader with 308 career three-pointers. Caitlyn holds the career assists record with 550. Both players are also ranked in career steals. Ashlyn ranks ninth with 180 and Caitlyn with 178. Caitlyn also holds the single game record for free throws made and consecutive free throws made. She canned 17 consecutive free throws in 2013 against Mercer in the first round of the WBI. Off the court, the players were just as outstanding as they were on the court. Both players were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic team three times. Ashlyn was named the league’s Student-Athlete of the Year for three consecutive years and was named to the 2011-12 Capital One District 6 Academic All-America Team. Caitlyn was awarded the prestigious Southland Conference Steve McCarty Citizenship award in 2013.

Pat Jean (1980-83)/ Jersey Retired During 2014-15 Season Pat Jean’s jersey will be retired prior to the Cowgirls’ Nov. 23, 2014 game against Southern Miss. Jean, who was inducted into the McNeese Hall of Fame in 1996, was a four year letterwinner for the Cowgirls. Jean still holds the McNeese career records with 2,461 points, 1, 571 rebounds, 798 free throws attempted, 350 steals, 986 field goals made, and a 57.2 field goal percent and ranks second with 106 career blocks. Jean still holds the Southland Conference career rebound (1,571) and career rebound average (13.2) records. Jean also holds the McNeese game records for field goal percent (62.4), free throws attempted (22), rebounds (25) and season records for points (647), field goals made (258), field goal percent (62.4), free throws attempted (252), and rebounds (462). Jean was a four-time all-Louisiana selection and an all-Southland Conference pick for the only year that she played in the conference.

POSTSEASON COWGIRLS IN THE POSTSEASON McNeese has appeared in two NCAA Tournaments (2011 and 2012) and four WBI Tournament (2013, 2014,2015,2016). The Cowgirls picked up heir first postseason win in 2013 with an 82-70 win over Mercer in the first round of the WBI Tournament and advanced to the championship game against Detroit Mercy. The Cowgirls played their first home WBI game in 2015 and picked up an 87-70 win over Furman. McNeese has appeared in 17 Southland Conference Tournaments. The Cowgirls have advanced to the SLC Tournament championship game four times (2013, 2012, 2011, 1983) and have reached the semifinals eight times (2016, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2005, 1995, 1983).

Sonny Watkins and Bridget Martin served as co-head coaches for four years (1990-94). During that time they were one of a few co-head coaches in the nation. The duo guided McNeese to three Southland Conference Tournaments and produced two All-Southland Conference players in Robin Daniels and Brooks Donald-Williams became McNeese’s all-time Tangela McAlister. Both players garnered individual honors as well. Daniels winningest coach with her 132nd career win during the 2014- was named the league’s “Freshman of the Year” in 1992 while McAlister was 15 season. Williams spent nine years at McNeese, amassing named the SLC “Newcomer of the Year” that same year. In 1993, McAlister a 161-130 career record. Williams became the all-time was named to the Basketball Times All-America Team, only the fourth and last winningest coach on Jan. 17, 2015 with a 79-74 win at Sam McNeese player to become an All-American. Houston State. Watkins later served as the Universities Athletic Director from 1995-2007 Williams was named head coach in 2007 and led the Cowgirls while Martin went on to serve as head coach for seven more years before to five consecutive postseaosn appearances including two being named McNeese’s Associate AD for Compliance and Senior Woman NCAA Tournaments (2011, 2012) and three WBI appearances Administrator in 2002, titles she still holds to date. (2013-15), advancing to the championship game in 2013.
