What simple and direct words to describe the campaign we are undertaking. Those three words are a call to arms for the next three years for you and me and the others we need to lead in the work of conservation. Let me share with you something I hope speaks to you about why you and I need to do more of the great work we do. To me, philanthropy is about giving back to the birds and wetlands and honoring the people and places that are special in my life. I am who I am because of education, experience and the special people who have shown me how to live a purposeful life. This deepening knowledge makes me appreciate where I came from and offers me a chance to preserve the special places where life has taken me. Few things excite me more than returning to an old haunt and seeing the birds return there as they have my entire life. I hope you think so as well. The challenges the birds face are very different than the challenges the founders of Ducks Unlimited experienced, but the determination to preserve wetlands has not waned for those of us who came after them. The population of the continent has nearly tripled since DU was founded in 1937. We make sure there is a place for the birds we pursue, watch and enjoy with family and friends. It is essential work that not only secures waterfowl for us, but for everyone else who enjoys the birds and the clean water that wetlands provide, as well as the beauty of the places they need to nourish their spirits. So as we recognize you, Ducks Unlimited’s special supporters, on the following pages, I challenge you to consider the places you want to preserve and protect. Work diligently with time, talent and treasure to make sure your spot under the stars of a clear fall sky just before the dawn is still reflected in the waters of a vibrant marsh. For 53 years, South Carolina Republicans have gathered together each year to forget... celebrate our party’s conservative principles, as well as the donors and activists who help promote those principles in our government. While our Party has enjoyed increasing success in the years since our Elephant Club was formed, we always have to remember that no victories are ever perma- nent. They are dependent on our continuing to be faithful to do the fundamen- tals: communicating a clear conservative message that is relevant to voters, identifying and organizing fellow Republicans, and raising the money to make it all possible. As we gather this evening on the anniversary of the tragic terrorists attacks on our homeland in 2001, we’re reminded about what’s at stake in our elections this year - the protection of our families, our homes, our property, our borders and our fundamental values. United States Senator Delaware William Roth was elected to the United States Senate as a Republican from Delaware in 1970 and served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1966-1970. From 1961-1964 he was Chairman of the Delaware Republican State Committee and a member of the Republican National Committee. Senator Roth holds a B.A. degree from the University of Oregon, an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and an LL.B. from Harvard Law School. He serves on two key Senate Committees, Finance and Gov­ ernmental Affairs. His Finance Committee responsibilities in­ volve him in many issues of concern to international business, including tax, energy and trade policy. Senator Roth is a member of the Finance Subcommittee on International Trade, and he has been very active in consideration of the Administration's energy program, leading opposition to the crude oil equalization tax and/or increased import duties on imported oil. Extent: 66 cubic ft. (165 legal-size Hollinger boxes) Physical Description: Paper Location: MSA Stacks ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION Alternative Formats: Microfilm (S95-S123) of the Pardon Papers, 1837-1909, was made before additions, interfiles, and merging of the series. Most of the unmicrofilmed material will be found from 1854-1876 (pardon certificates and presidential pardons from an unprocessed box) and 1892-1909 (formerly restorations of citizenship). Also, stray records found in the Senior Reference Archivist’s office from 1836-1920 in Box 164 and interfiles (bulk 1860) from 2 Hollinger boxes found in the stacks, a portion of which are in Box 164. Access Restrictions: Applications or petitions listing the social security numbers of living people are confidential and must be provided to patrons in an alternative format. At the discretion of the Senior Reference Archivist, some records from the Board of Probation and Parole may be restricted per RSMo 549.500. Publication Restrictions: Copyright is in the public domain. PARDONS Processing Information: Processing done by various staff members and completed by Mary Kay Coker on October 30, 2007. Combined the series Pardon Papers and Restorations of Citizenship because the latter, especially in later years, contained a large proportion of pardons. The two series were split at 1910 but a later addition overlapped from 1892 to 1909 and these records were left in their respective boxes but listed chronologically in the finding aid.
