HEAD COACH – (Senior Men’s Team)

As part of an ICC Targeted Assistance and Performance Programme in 2013, Ireland launched a senior men’s regional competition structure – now the Newstalk Inter-Provincial Series, of 3-day, one- day and Twenty20 cricket. The results in the first two years of the competitions has been outstanding, helping increase the player pool available to the Ireland national team, and plugging the gap between domestic club cricket and the out international team.

Within this structure, is seeking an individual with excellent experience in coaching players and teams to become the Head Coach of the Leinster Lightning, and build on the successful foundations laid by former head coach Trent Johnston. The team has won the Championship (3-day) twice in succession, the Cup (50 over) in 2014, and the Trophy (Twenty20) in 2013.

The Coach must have a minimum ECB Level 2 coaching award or equivalent from a full member country, and preferably a Level 3 qualification or desire to engage on the Level 3 programme in the near future. The coach will be responsible for delivering coaching sessions, programmes and match day coaching operations, amounting to a total of 32 days per annum.

Based in the Union’s locality (Dublin area), the role will report directly into the Team Administration Officer for the Provincial Union, and the PU Chair of Selectors. The Head Coach will work closely with the players’ coaches at Cricket Ireland national age-group and senior level.

The self-employed position will initially be a 9-month consultancy contract from January to September 2015, and offers a genuine opportunity for the successful candidate to help develop players and the Leinster Lighting team in the Newstalk Inter-Provincial competition structure, as well as their own coaching ability.

Role Descriptor:

HEAD COACH – LEINSTER LIGHTNING

Reports to: CI Team Administration Officer – Leinster and a dotted line to a Provincial Union appointed officer.

Position Overview: Overall responsibility for the coaching and development of players and the Leinster Lightning senior men’s team. The Head Coach will have the support of a part-time strength and conditioning and performance analyst internship, and a physiotherapist all on match days only.

Specific responsibilities:

1.  Act as Head Coach to the Leinster Lightning, working in co-operation with the Team Manager  Ensure a consistent approach to the development of the players by closely liaising with the CI Senior Men’s Coach and support staff  Make recommendations to the Cricket Leinster Development Committee for the development and improvement of the elite regional cricket programmes and associated arrangements  Arrange one-to-one or small group coaching for players when appropriate  Plan, organise, and direct squad coaching sessions  Plan, organise, and direct coaching/preparation on match days (20 days)  Advise on team strategy in close collaboration with the Leinster Lightning  Contribute as a member of the Leinster Lightning Selection Committee, and present formal reports at the end of winter training/coaching and at the end of the summer playing programme  Report, as requested, to meetings of CI through the CI Cricket Operations Manager  Increase the profile of cricket through the media by liaising with both the Cricket Leinster PRO and CI Media Manager  Participate, as requested, in presentations to prospective LL sponsors and commercial partners

2. The Coach’s work programme, incorporating the duties set out in Clause 1 above, and the associated budgets, shall be approved in advance by the PU Team Administration Officer and CI Cricket Operations Manager. Objectives shall be set by the Cricket Leinster Development Committee and Chair of Selectors in conjunction with the CI Senior Men’s Coach, and the Coach’s performance in achieving them will be reviewed at approximately six-monthly intervals

In the event that there shall at any time be a conflict between the performance of any of the Coach’s duties, such as would not enable the Coach to discharge all of his duties, then the Team Administration Officer shall determine which of such conflicting duties shall have priority.

3. The Coach shall report to each meeting of the Cricket Leinster Development Committee, the CI Cricket Operations Manager and CI National Selectors on his work since the previous meeting.

4. The programme of work approved by the Leinster Lightning Development Committee shall be varied only by, or with the agreement of the Team Administration Officer.

5. In carrying out his duties, the Coach shall:  endeavour at all times to foster mutual understanding, harmony, and a sense of common purpose, between the players in his charge, CI and the officers and committee members of the PU;  make no statement to the media, or in any other public forum, that is not in accord with, or which advocates change to, the established policies of CI and/or the PU;  clear with the Team Administration Officer the content of any media interview touching upon strategic or policy issues; and  attend and participate in social functions and promotional events, as required by the Team Administration Officer

Working Hours: 32 days (to include 20 match days, 18x 2hr training sessions plus travel, 5 days admin, preparation, and reporting)

Remuneration: 32 days @€185/day, total €5,920
