Meber Diractory FOREWORD I t gives me immense pleasure to present first Publication of Pharmexcil Directory of Members. Primary information about our members like name of the Company, Contact details, e-mail, web site and primary business activities are given in the directory. I am sure that this Directory will serve as first hand guide for any overseas buyer. This publication will be distributed free of cost to: G All foreign delegates in all International Pharma Conferences conducted by DINESH B MODY Council Chairman, Pharmexcil G The foreign Buyers in the Buyer-Seller Meetings at abroad and in India organized by Council G The Indian embassies abroad for their reference and to guide the Pharma buyers in the respective countries. G Foreign embassies in India Efforts have been made to make this directory more useful by providing product index as well as members index. However, due to poor response from the members for various mails from the Council to provide the list of products, index for products could not be prepared in the first publication. I am now confident that after observing Councils' positive and transparent approach for the last one and half year to help the Indian Pharma exporters to boost their performance, members will be more responsive in providing the information sought by Council. The Secretariat of the Council has taken all measures to provide correct information about the members, based on available data. However, in case members have any suggestions for improvement, the same may please be brought to the notice of the Council, so that we can improve the next edition of the publication. DINESH B MODY Chairman, Pharmexcil PHARMACEUTICALS EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCIL The Industry (Set up by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India) Indian Pharmaceutical Industry has made phenomenal progress over the years and made its impact in the global market. This sector is being recognized as reliable source for drugs and drug intermediates and formulations. The companies started utilizing the tremendous opportunities available for Indian Pharma industry in post 2005 era to manufacture and export many block buster products getting off-patented. Its immense strength in manufacturing quality medicines at inexpensive prices made the Indian Pharma industry to compete both in regulated and non-regulated markets. This industry is playing a vital role in the Indian economy with about Rs.17000 crores exporting to over 200 countries in the year ear 2004-05. Apart from its strengths in manufacturing and exporting allopathic medicines, India is known for its own systems of medicines with about 7000 units manufacturing various Indian system of medicines viz., Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy etc. Though strong in cultivation/manufacture of Indian system of medicines, India's share in the global herbal market, estimated at US$ 63 billion, is less than 0.2%, which shows that there is a tremendous scope for export market. Fast growing Biotech industry estimated at about US$ 2 billion market, is yet another part of Indian Pharma industry in India, which has great potential in the international market and needs focused attention to improve its performance in the international market. Separate Council: These above strengths of Indian Pharma industry and the strong and continued recommendations of Four major Pharma associations made the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to realize the need for separate export promotion council. With active support of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, who provided the necessary corus fund for establishing any new council, Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (PHARMEXCIL) has been set up on 12.5.2004. Finally, with its notification No.61 dt. 16.3.2005, Director General of Foreign Trade made Pharmexcil a sole agency to issue RCMCs to all Pharma exporters. Some acknowledged strengths of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry G US$ 8 billion industry G Produces 70% APIs, and almost the entire requirement of formulations within the country th G Ranks 4 in the world, accounting 8% of world production by volume and 2% by value G Very strong in Indian medicine systems of Ayurvedic, Homoepathy, Unani, Siddha and Herbals medicines G Fast growing Biotech industry with US$ 2 billion market G Low cost of production G Low R&D costs G Abundant scientific and technical manpower G Strong intellectual capital G Excellent world-calls national laboratories, specialized in development processes and cost effective technologies G An efficient and cost effective source for procuring generic drugs, especially the drugs going off patent in the next few years G An excellent center for clinical trials G USFDA/WHO complying manufacturing facilities G 15% of Indian Pharmaceutical scientists are in USA, hence good network Categories of products covered under Pharmexcil : Bulk Drugs and its intermediates Diagnostics Formulations Surgicals/Devices Biotech and biological products Neutraceuticals Herbal products Pharma industry related services Medicinal plants Collaborative Research Ayurvedic products Contract manufacturing Unani products Clinical trials and consultancy services Homeopathic medicines Veterinary products The Council The activities of the Council are administered by the Committee of Administration consisting of representatives from various sectors of Pharma Industry.
