  • MAIDEN SPEECH Mr BOYCE (Callide—LNP) (4.06 Pm): Thank You, Mr Speaker
Speech By Colin Boyce MEMBER FOR CALLIDE Record of Proceedings, 8 March 2018 MAIDEN SPEECH Mr BOYCE (Callide—LNP) (4.06 pm): Thank you, Mr Speaker. I rise to deliver my first speech and acknowledge International Women’s Day. My first memory was sitting on my father’s knee at the kitchen table beside a wood stove. It was early in the morning and it was cold. On the table was a radio covered in a brown leather case. The man on the radio who was delivering the news said, ‘The President of the United States of America, John F Kennedy, is dead.’ So profound was the news that I remember it to this day. I grew up on my parent’s brigalow ballot block and I remember the big tractors pulling the scrub— a government requirement of the day. The wheel has turned, and now we have proposed government regulation which will inhibit agricultural development in Queensland. It is time that people understand that our graziers and our farmers are the true practical environmentalists—the custodians of the land who look after it, nurture it and make it productive and sustainable. Australia was born on the back of agriculture and it remains at the forefront of our economy, including the local economy of Callide. I will be constantly challenging concerns and advocating for growth for agriculture in our electorate. It is with great humility and respect that I stand before the 56th Parliament to deliver my first speech as the newly elected member for Callide. I pledge my allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her representative the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Hon.

ETHICS COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 198 MATTER OF PRIVILEGE REFERRED BY THE REGISTRAR ON 16 OCTOBER 2019 RELATING TO AN ALLEGED FAILURE TO REGISTER AN INTEREST IN THE REGISTER OF MEMBERS’ INTERESTS Introduction and background 1. The Ethics Committee (the committee) is a statutory committee of the Queensland Parliament established under section 102 of the Parliament of Queensland Act 2001 (‘the POQA’). The current committee was appointed by resolution of the Legislative Assembly on 15 February 2018. 2. The committee’s area of responsibility includes dealing with complaints about the ethical conduct of particular members and dealing with alleged breaches of parliamentary privilege by members of the Assembly and other persons.1 The committee investigates and reports on matters of privilege and possible contempts of Parliament referred to it by the Speaker, the Registrar, or the House. 3. This report concerns a referral from the Registrar regarding a possible contempt of Parliament by the Member for Broadwater, Mr David Crisafulli MP for failing to declare interests on the Register of Members’ Interests. The referral 4. On 15 October 2019, the Leader of the House, Hon Yvette D’Ath MP wrote to the Registrar (the Clerk of the Parliament) alleging that the Member for Broadwater, Mr David Crisafulli MP, failed to declare, within the required timeframe, that he was director of Revalot Pty Ltd on the Register of Members’ Interests (‘the Register’). It was further alleged that he failed to declare, whatsoever, that he was secretary of Revalot Pty Ltd. 5. The Leader of the House also noted a property at Lannercost had recently appeared on the Member for Broadwater’s statement of interests, and queried if it had been declared within the required time frame.

  • Cotton Australia Letter to LNP Pre-Election
Mrs Deborah Frecklington, Leader of the Opposition, BLevely Electronic 7, Mineral Mail House, 41 George Street BRISBANE QLD 4000 [email protected] Re: Dear Mrs Frecklington, 2020 Election The Queensland cotton industry in a normal year contributes between $700 million and $1 billion to the Queensland economy and supports thousands of jobs throughout the state. Cotton lint is one of Queensland’s major agricultural exports, and cotton seed is a very important feed source for the Queensland beef industry. Our traditional geographic footprint spreads from the Central Highlands around Emerald, to the Queensland/New South Wales border near Goondiwindi, and from Dalby west to St George and Dirranbandi. However, in recent years, commercial crops have been established in the Lockyer Valley, Wide Bay and in the Gulf Catchments, with very real expectations that these areas will expand, bringing hundreds of jobs, and economic prosperity to these rural and regional areas. Cotton Australia is the industry’s peak body representing the 600 cotton growers in Queensland. With the ongoing success of our industry, and with the Queensland communities it is part of in mind, we would like you to seriously consider the ideas and requests that we have laid out in this letter. Cotton Australia is an active member of the Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) and endorses the election commitment requests it is making. 1 Water Rural Water Pricing Cotton Australia supports affordable and sustainable rural water pricing. As an industry, we recognise as a general principle that water prices should reflect efficient “Lower Bound Costs”, where the cost is also affordable for irrigators.

  • What Next with the Cableway and Cruise Ship Terminal on the Gold Coast
OPINION Inside story: what next with the cableway and cruise ship terminal on the Gold Coast Labor’s Meaghan Scanlon and the LNP’s Sam O’Connor are on the front benches after their State poll wins. Their new environment portfolios at first glance seem a great fit. But there are political time bombs ahead with the promotions of both these young MPs. Paul Weston, Gold Coast Bulletin Subscriber only | November 20, 2020 12:00am LABOR’S Meaghan Scanlon and the LNP’s Sam O’Connor are on the front benches after their state poll wins. Their new environment portfolios at first glance seem a great fit. But there are political time bombs ahead with the promotions of both these young MPs. Gaven MP Meaghan Scanlon has attended her first cabinet meeting as Environment Minister. Photo: Supplied Ms Scanlon was Assistant Minister to Tourism Minister Kate Jones, and tipped to replace her. Labor political strategists knew giving the Gaven MP the tourism portfolio would have led to daily media questioning about border closures and the impact on Coast businesses. Being Environment Minister should be as breezy as a hinterland eco-tourism holiday. But city councillors, most likely after the New Year, will get a report on a cableway. In a mail out to her electorate, Mudgeeraba MP Ros Bates found 73 per cent of residents supported a cableway as long as it met environmental standards. The cableway being investigated by Gold Coast City Council would likely be similar to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway at Cairns. When questioned by the Bulletin on the cableway and the proposed offshore cruise ship terminal at The Spit during the campaign, Ms Scanlon said: “Both projects have had a number of proposals put forward, none of which have been broadly supported by the community or have not stacked up on environment or economic grounds.

Speech by Ray Stevens MEMBER FOR MERMAID BEACH Hansard Thursday, 17 May 2012 ADDRESS-IN-REPLY Mr STEVENS (Mermaid Beach—LNP) (11.49 am): I rise today with the greatest honour to present my address-in-reply to Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland’s speech at the opening of the 54th Parliament and this most auspicious occasion. Her Excellency executed her official duties on behalf of the Queen, being the head of this parliament, the Commonwealth of Australia and her namesake the state of Queensland with the greatest of distinction, poise and grace. I thank Her Excellency for making this such an historic occasion in so many different ways. First and foremost today, I would like to congratulate the member for Maroochydore on becoming the first female Speaker in Queensland. This is the supreme exultant position of the parliamentary roles in the Queensland parliament, and I am sure that Madam Speaker will uphold the office of the Speaker with the utmost of integrity and decorum for which she is already renowned. I do not underestimate the huge task that is before Madam Speaker with such a new and diverse Legislative Assembly that the people of Queensland have elected to this special place, but without a doubt Madam Speaker will oversee a very fair and equitable parliamentary process that the members of this House require and the people of Queensland deserve. I would also like to congratulate the Premier, the Hon. Campbell Newman, on his elevation to the position as the highest elected representative of the great people of the state of Queensland.
