Container List………………………………............................................................... 4 Walter Johnson Brown Chronology 1903 Walter Johnson Brown was born 25 July in Bowman, Georgia, to John Judson Brown and Captora Ginn Brown. 1917- Attended Tech High School, Atlanta, Georgia. 1920? 1921? Enrolled at Georgia Institute of Technology. 1924? Student in the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism, University of Georgia. 1925 12 April. Married Georgia Watson Lee, granddaughter of Thomas E. Watson. 1929 Moved to Washington, DC, and worked for James S. Vance as a journalist. 1930 WSPA began broadcasting in Spartanburg, SC, on 17 February, the first radio station in the state. 1930 Established a Washington news bureau that served newspapers in the Carolinas. 1931 Began friendship with James F. Byrnes in Washington. 1935 Georgia Watson Lee Brown died, leaving one son, Tom Watson Brown. 1940 Moved to Spartanburg, SC, to become Vice-President and General Manager of Spartanburg Advertising Company, owner of WORD.
