DISH Network Satellite Television Brings Local TV Channels to Eugene, Ore
DISH Network Satellite Television Brings Local TV Channels to Eugene, Ore. Littleton, Colo., Oct. 2, 2003 – EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) announced today that its DISH Network™, America's fastest growing subscription television service, now offers local TV channels by satellite television to Eugene, Ore. The following local TV channels are now offered: CBS Ch. 13 (KVAL), FOX Ch. 34 (KLSR), NBC Ch. 16 (KMTR), UPN Ch. 36 (KTVC) and PBS Ch. 28 (KEPB). This is the first time local TV channels are available by satellite TV in the Eugene area, providing an alternative to local cable TV service. Local channels will be offered at a $1 per month discount to the regular price of $5.99 per month for DISH Network customers in Eugene until the local ABC station is added to the package. A Dish 500 antenna is required to receive the local channels via satellite. "DISH Network customers now have a more affordable alternative to cable in Eugene," said Michael Schwimmer, senior vice president of Programming at EchoStar. "DISH Network provides local news, weather and sports in 100 percent digital quality to viewers who should not be left with cable service as their only choice for local television." DISH Network offers local channels via satellite to Eugene customers in four Oregon counties: Benton, Coos, Douglas and Lane. With the addition of Eugene, DISH Network offers local channels in a total of 72 cities and their metro areas nationwide. DISH Network offers consumers the lowest all digital TV package price in America at only $24.99 per month for more than 50 popular TV channels such as ESPN, Discovery, CNN and the Food Network. -

Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports Can Play in ESPN's Arena
Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports can play in ESPN’s Arena Kristopher M. Gundersen May 1, 2014 Professor Richard Linowes – Kogod School of Business University Honors Spring 2014 Gundersen 1 Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship ESPN has with the sports broadcasting industry. The study focuses on future prospects for the industry in relation to ESPN and its most prominent rival Fox Sports. It introduces significant players in the market aside from ESPN and Fox Sports and goes on to analyze the current industry conditions in the United States and abroad. To explore the future conditions for the market, the main method used was a SWOT analysis juxtaposing ESPN and Fox Sports. Ultimately, the study found that ESPN is primed to maintain its monopoly on the market for many years to come but Fox Sports is positioned well to compete with the industry behemoth down the road. In order to position itself alongside ESPN as a sports broadcasting power, Fox Sports needs to adjust its time horizon, improve its bids for broadcast rights, focus on the personalities of its shows, and partner with current popular athletes. Additionally, because Fox Sports has such a strong regional persona and presence outside of sports, it should leverage the relationship it has with those viewers to power its national network. Gundersen 2 Introduction The world of sports is a fast-paced and exciting one that attracts fanatics from all over. They are attracted to specific sports as a whole, teams within a sport, and traditions that go along with each sport. -

At a press conference in Washington with FCC Commissioner Jonathan S. Adelstein, the groups called for a crackdown on stations that present corporate-sponsored videos as genuine news to an unsuspecting audience. CMD, which unveiled the results of a 10-month investigation, found scores of local stations slipping commercial “video news releases,” or VNRs, into their regular news programming. The new multimedia report released today includes footage of 36 separate VNRs and their broadcast as “news” by TV stations and networks nationwide, including those in the nation’s biggest markets. The full report -- “Fake TV News: Widespread and Undisclosed” -- is now available complete with VNR and TV station video footage at www.prwatch.org/fakenews/execsummary.
