Pat’s Posts: It was a hot and humid day on Wednesday 5th July when 15 members turned up for lunch at The Tree Restaurant near Boxhill. The prices for the main lunch ranged from about £8.00 to £15.00 but it was cheaper if you ordered from the Children’s menu which was £5.95. I don’t know how much the desserts were, but I imagine they were on the expensive side also. Some of us felt that the pub we had known had been modernised a little too much. After lunch 7 members went on to Boxhill and walked to the viewpoint. It was such a lovely clear day and you could see for miles. There was a real holiday atmosphere up there with people sitting on the grass having picnics, walking their dogs and enjoying themselves. Some of us had a cup of tea and we all agreed that it had been a very enjoyable, happy, sunny afternoon.

On Wednesday 26th July, 15 members turned up at the Tattenham Corner Beefeater restaurant for lunch. It was a surprisingly nice place inside and the lunchtime menu for the over 55s was very reasonable. You could have a starter for £2.49 and main meal for £5.00 and sweet for £2.49. Frank and myself chose the sweet and the whole meal was excellent. We will certainly make our way there again. It was nice to see two new members turn up for lunch – Helen and Alan. Hope to see you both in the near future at another venue. After lunch Brenda and I went for a walk on the Downs as did Barbara, Shirley, Helen and Alan. It was very nice but extremely windy. Helen and Alan set off for a proper walk but everyone else contented themselves with a short stroll. It was nice seeing everyone and having a chat. I think we would all agree.

On Thursday 10th August and with the sun shining, 13 members arrived at the Marquis of Granby in Esher for lunch. The majority of us had the Carvery, which was very good but some of us thought it was not very hot. We paid £8.95 each for the Carvery which seemed a bit expensive – but everyone seemed to enjoy it. Afterwards about 10 of us went on to Bushy Park. It was lovely in there and we had a walk and saw moorhens, ducks and many parakeets. We finished off with a very welcome cup of tea at the Pheasantry Café. All in all it was a very pleasant afternoon.

Brenda’s Blog: Exactly when we needed fine, warm and calm weather, we got it for our boat trip on Tuesday 22nd August. A total of 13 of us met, after negotiating the scaffolding surrounding The King’s Tun pub. Ann, arriving a bit late, had pressed on with her journey in spite of a bus breakdown, determined not to miss the boat. We all enjoyed the Wetherspoon’s fare, reliably hot, promptly served and reasonable prices. Some of us even had an alcoholic drink as we had travelled by bus! By 2.10 pm it was time to find the boat so we set off to look for the river and Turks Pier. I made a diversion to see nearby Canbury Gardens but joined the rest of the party in time to go on board. We had superb views from the upper deck and it was specially interesting for those of us who regularly drive along the main road to see the scenery from the middle of the river. Most of us chose our favourite luxurious riverside home (or boat) if only we had the money! The view of Hampton Court Palace itself was awe inspiring, so many chimneys, and its superb size resonant with history. We could have disembarked there and returned on a later boat, but we all decided to stay on board and enjoy the “green” scenery of Home Park as the boat meandered back to Turks Pier. One of our more interesting fellow passengers was a tourist from Tasmania and I am glad to report that she was absolutely thrilled with English scenery so far! By common consent an excellent day, organised by Chairman Barbara. There is already a demand for a similar trip next year, but in the opposite direction towards Teddington, Twickenham and Richmond. My name is already down!

SUNDAY 29th October. The West Middlesex Group of Boundless by CSMA has organised a 3 hour round trip on the from Maidenhead, starting at 10 am. The boat will leave Maidenhead promenade and head upstream through Boulter’s Lock and the magnificent Cliveden Reach to see the hanging woods at Cliveden.

The all inclusive cost is £25.00 which includes a ploughman’s lunch.

The closing date for booking is Friday 20th October – but the sooner the better as places are limited!
