Manitoba Child Health Atlas 2004 December 2004 Manitoba Centre for Health Policy Department of Community Health Sciences Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba The entire report is available on this WWW site: http://www.umanitoba.ca/centres/mchp/reports/child_inequalities Community Resource Indicators: Rate of Family Services Programs for Low-Income Residents, by Winnipeg SES Group These graphs show a broad overview of the rate of Family Services programs offered in each Winnipeg NC. Family Services programs were obtained from the Winnipeg Child and Family Services Resource List and include programs such as anger management, children and teen support groups, clothing exchanges, community kitchens, moms/dads/womens/mens groups, parent- child programs, parenting programs, recreation for children and youth, and youth drop-ins. Although the Low SES neighbourhoods (shown here in red) have some of the highest numbers of these programs, when we look at this as rate per residents in the lowest income quintile, these neighbourhoods actually have the lowest rate. The Middle SES NCs (shown in light green here) as a group have the highest rate of family services programs per 1000 residents in the lowest income quintile. Because of the larger low income population, the Low SES areas would need a much larger number of programs than they have now to be able to reach the level of programs per low income residents in the Middle SES areas. program-fs_16DEC2004 Rate of Family Services Programs for All Residents, by Winnipeg NC, 2000 River East N (d) Seven Oaks N (d) Assiniboine South St. Vital S Fort Garry N St. Boniface E Inkster W (f) River Heights W St. James - Assiniboia W Fort Garry S (f) Transcona Seven Oaks W SES River East E High River East W Middle River Heights E Low-Mid St. Vital N Low St. James - Assiniboia E Seven Oaks E St. Boniface W Downtown W River East S Point Douglas N Inkster E Downtown E Point Douglas S 0 0.5 1 1.5 2 2.5 Rate per 1000 'd' indicates NCs for which data was not collected 'f' indicates NCs that have no Family Services programs program-fs_16DEC2004 Rate of Family Services Programs for Residents in the Lowest Income Quintile, by Winnipeg NC, 2000 River East N (d) Seven Oaks N (d) Assiniboine South St. Vital S Fort Garry N St. Boniface E Inkster W (f) River Heights W St. James - Assiniboia W Fort Garry S (f) Transcona value = 222 SES Seven Oaks W High River East E Middle River East W Low-Mid River Heights E Low St. Vital N St. James - Assiniboia E Seven Oaks E St. Boniface W Downtown W River East S Point Douglas N Inkster E Downtown E Point Douglas S 0 2 4 6 8 101214161820 'd' indicates NCs for which data was not collected Rate per 1000 'f' indicates NCs that have no Family Services programs program-fs_16DEC2004 These definitions can be found in the Child Health Atlas Glossary: http://www.umanitoba.ca/centres/mchp/reports/child_inequalities/glossary.shtml Income Quintile Programs Neighbourhood Cluster (NC) Socioeconomic Status (SES).
