Plan your commute with http://www.riderta.com to enjoy all Downtown Cleveland has to offer. Put Your Junk in Your Trunk! Valuable items should not be left in the interior of a vehicle where others can see them. Even better is to place these items in the trunk prior to arriving at your destination. Be aware of increased pedestrian traffic in the downtown area. If you see something suspicious, say something. Report any suspicious activity to safety officials. The Bureau of Traffic will supplement their customary allotment of traffic enforcement officers with additional police officers and traffic controllers to facilitate traffic into and out of downtown and to assist with pedestrian traffic. Numerous officers will be detailed to the area during the event for added security and crowd control. Finally, on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, the 38th annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon will commence. Saturday’s events will feature a 5k run and a Kids’ Fun Run at Edgewater park beginning at 8:00 AM. The 10k, half, and full marathon will begin at 7:00 AM on Sunday. The Cleveland Division of Police expects approximately 70,000 runners and spectators to take place in the festivities over the weekend and, as always, safety is our priority. See the course map here and familiarize yourself with the route if you plan to participate, watch, or travel during the duration of the event. -more- Parking along the race route will be prohibited until the Division of Police re-opens any closed routes. If you plan to travel close by the route on the day of the race, please expect delays and plan accordingly or utilize RTA. Visit www.clevelandmarathon.com for more information on the race and details regarding the day of the event. If you are traveling to or from the city this weekend, the Ohio Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to be alert for detours and new traffic patterns! During Marathon weekend, the ramp from I-90 east toward Downtown will be closed at the I-490 split. Those traveling from the west who use I- 90 to enter Downtown should “Opt for the Alternate!” and use I-490 east to I-77 north to reach Downtown venues! Those who use I-77 south to exit Downtown will notice changes as the East 9th and Ontario Street ramps to I-77 south have been permanently relocated. Outbound I-77 traffic now uses Orange Avenue which is reduced to two lanes in each direction between Carnegie and East 14th Street. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes if possible. Follow all posted signage and allow for extra travel time to reach, and depart, Downtown venues.
