ROTA Hace poco tuve ocasión de comentar la magnífica edición Deutsche Grammophon Oper auf Deutsch de selecciones de ópera alemana, italiana, francesa y rusa cantada en alemán. Allí reflexionaba sobre la rentabilidad del producto discográfico de los Grosse Querschnitte o Höhepunkte in deutscher Sprache, selecciones de ópera, cantadas en alemán, que ocupaban las dos caras de un LP. Era un producto que se vendía muy bien, pensado básicamente para el mercado alemán. Remito a él al amable lector para más información. Rudolf Schock. Electrola Querschnitte. CD Como ya apuntaba entonces, la germana Electrola también 1: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 'Die Entführung aus dem Serail'. Erna Berger explotó este mercado de pingües beneficios. De hecho, (Konstanze), Rudolf Schock (Belmonte), mucho antes y en mayor cantidad que su rival del sello Lisa Otto (Blonde), Gerhard Unger amarillo. EMI Classics / eminentes y veteranos cantantes, como la mezzo dramática Warner Classics​ 5099992831 Johanna Blatter (Lucia), el Spieltenor Erich Zimmermann (Goro, Spoletta), el Charakterbariton Hanns-Heinz Nissen (Kruschina) y el bajo profundo Wilhelm Strienz (Sacristán), populares todos ellos en Alemania, de Berlín a Bayreuth, ya en los años treinta y cuarenta. Y la cosa no podía empezar mejor que con Die Entführung aus dem Serail, servida por un reparto de lujo. Excelente la pareja protagonista Schock-Berger y excelente también la pareja secundaria Unger-Otto, otro clásico. El Osmin de Frick, de antonomasia. Los poco más de cincuenta minutos dejan fuera mucha música, como el aria de Konstanze Martern aller Arten. Quien solo conozca Adolphe Adam* por Giselle se va a llevar una agradable sorpresa con Als ich König wär’ (Si j’étais roi). Que la cosa será buena se percibe a los pocos compases de la brillante obertura. Schock está exquisito en las líricas romanzas de Zéphoris. A su lado, la sueca Stina-Britta Melander supera con nota las difíciles coloraturas de la princesa Néméa. La pareja cómica Piféar-Zélide está magníficamente encarnada en las voces de Karl-Ernst Mercker y Ursula Schirrmacher. Finalmente, dos lujos en la cuerda grave: Thomas Stewart como príncipe Kadoor y Peter Roth-Ehrang como Zizel. Se completa el disco con las oberturas de El califa de Bagdad de Boieldieu, y Mignon de Thomas, interpretadas por la Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie bajo la batuta de Wilhelm Schüchter. La joven Sieglinde Wagner (31 años) debutó en la Städtische Oper, luego Deutsche Oper Berlín, en 1952.     Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos - A survey of the major recordings by Ralph Moore Ariadne auf Naxos is less frequently encountered on stage than Der Rosenkavalier or Salome, but it is something of favourite among those who fancy themselves connoisseurs, insofar as its plot revolves around a conceit typical of Hofmannsthal’s libretti, whereby two worlds clash: the merits of populist entertainment, personified by characters from the burlesque Commedia dell’arte tradition enacting Viennese operetta, are uneasily juxtaposed with the claims of high art to elevate and refine the observer as embodied in the opera seria to be performed by another company of singers, its plot derived from classical myth. The tale of Ariadne’s desertion by Theseus is performed in the second half of the evening and is in effect an opera within an opera. The fun starts when the major-domo conveys the instructions from “the richest man in Vienna” that in order to save time and avoid delaying the fireworks, both entertainments must be performed simultaneously. Both genres are parodied and a further contrast is made between Zerbinetta’s pragmatic attitude towards love and life and Ariadne’s morbid, death-oriented idealism – “Todgeweihtes Herz!”, Tristan und Isolde-style. Strauss’ scoring is interesting and innovative; the orchestra numbers only forty or so players: strings and brass are reduced to chamber-music scale and the orchestration heavily weighted towards woodwind and percussion, with the result that it is far less grand and Romantic in scale than is usual in Strauss and a peculiarly spare ad spiky mood frequently prevails.

He has worked for a number of specialist labels, including Pearl, Biddulph, Romophone and Music & Arts. Three of his transfers have been Great Opera Recordings nominated for Gramophone Awards. A pianist by training, his passions are music, history and working on projects. He has found a way to combine all three in the transfer of historical recordings. Ludwig Van Obert-Thorn describes himself as a ‘moderate interventionist’ rather than a ‘purist’ or ‘re-processor,’ unlike those who apply significant additions and make major changes to the acoustical qualities of old recordings. His BEETHOVEN philosophy is that a good transfer should not call attention to itself, but rather allow the performances to be heard (1770-1827) with the greatest clarity. There is no over-reverberant ‘cathedral sound’ in an Obert-Thorn restoration, nor is there the tinny bass and piercing mid-range of many ‘authorised’ commercial issues. He works with the cleanest available 78s, and Fidelio consistently achieves better results than restoration engineers working with the metal parts from the archives of the Opera in Two Acts modern corporate owners of the original recordings.

His father, Carl Conrad Schuricht was born on 27 January 1856. He was an organ-builder and worked at his father's factory. He died on 9 June 1880 (3 weeks before his son was born !) when he tried to help an employee fallen into the sea, in the bay of Danzig. His mother, Amanda Ludowika Alwine Wusinowska was a well-known Polish Oratorio singer (1847-1935) . She didn't re-marry after her husband's death. 1886 : Began piano and violin lessons at the age of 6. Studied at the « Friedrichs Realgymnasium » in Berlin. 1891 : Began to compose at the age of 11. 1892 : Studied at the « Königliches Realgymnasium » in Wiesbaden. Written the music and the librettos for 2 Operas. 1895 : Started conducting at the age of 15. 1901-1902 : 1st professional job as « Korrepetitor » at the « Stadttheater » of Mainz. 1902 : Won a composition prize from the Kuszynski Foundation, and awarded a scholarship by Franz von Mendelssohn. Allowed him to continue his studies at the « Berliner Musikhochschule » (« der Königlichten Hochschule für Musik ») under Ernst Rudorff, piano ; Heinrich van Eyken (and not Engelbert Humperdink) , composition ; and, later, Max Reger in Leipzig. His musical compositions were published mostly by Drei-Lilien-Verlag, Berlin. Opus 1 : Piano Sonata in F minor. Opus 2 : « Herbst-Stücke » (Opuscules for autumn) for piano and orchestra. Opus 3 : « Fünf Lieder » (5 Songs) .
