It was something he did on the side as an on-call firefighter, while working full time in in information systems and accounting, and while he and his wife owned the Hay Wagon Restaurant in Uxbridge, which they sold in 2000. Eventually, Kessler became an EMT and then a career firefighter. “It was kind of a strange way to start, but I just really enjoyed it,” said Kessler. Kessler’s appointment as the new chief came during a difficult time within the department. A management letter from Municipal Resources Inc., revealed the Mendon Department was facing a number of issues, including

Initially, the new boss said he wasn’t sure how he’d be received by his new staff after not having a day-to-day Fire Chief in place for so long. “Their attitude was—we know we need fire leadership and it’s been that way since day one,” he said. “I can’t emphasize enough how cooperative they’ve been.” New Mendon Fire Chief Bill Kessler and Oliver. Being an all-star was a huge accomplishment for me, it’s something I never thought I would achieve.” Utter said she chose Framingham State because it’s close to home and because she felt the Division III level would be the best one for her. “I love the sport and the coach there was welcoming, so were the girls,” she said. “It felt like home when I went to a camp there.” The next day, Utter said she told her parents, Jen and Charlie, that she wanted be a Ram. “They are really proud of me, they tell me every day,” Utter said. “When I first told my parents I wanted to play in college, they were very supportive.” The support included rides from Upton to Westford, where Utter has played club lacrosse. “They are fully in on this,” she said.
