We have also retained Greg Smith and Dan Clements to ensure we have forward options to compliment and take pressure off Ryan and Bully. Global experience. Local expertise. We kicked off the season Saturday and it we looked a bit ring rusty. Credit to Nantwich, they looked a good footballing side and I expect a better season from them this year. Saying that, we defended too casually I thought and didn't look good enough in possession when the counter attack was on. The score line was slightly misleading as we were winning for the large portions of the game, and they did score twice in injury time, but there were still plenty of areas we could of improved on. It was frustrating getting to final minutes of game in a great position but surrendering it. I think we could argue about their first penalty but I'd rather not and stick to the fact we could have defended better as a side. I felt for Edy Appleton who got sent off when in really difficult situation and will now miss Whitby game. That blow is slightly softened with the news the skipper will be hopefully 100% by time Ashton arrive at the weekend.

It is certainly important we pick up some points from the next two home fixtures, just as last season don't expect there to be any easy games in this league. I'm probably the same as most and expect Salford to win it, behind that it’s anyone's guess. I know there is strength in the teams both coming down and up into the Northern Premier as you would imagine. Also questions will have to be asked as to why we surrendered a two goal lead so easily after originally defending well for 40 minutes. We deserved nothing more than the good hiding we got as Nantwich at times made us look like school boys. Ball retention was nonexistent and balls coming into our box were coming in all so easy to unmarked men. The only lad that came away with some real credit was Knighty and that tells you a lot of how the game went. This is the first time we haven't managed to win our opening day fixture for a couple of seasons now so hopefully the roles are reversed and this means we'll have a better season than previous campaigns.

It is only one game and we must learn and move on to try and get maximum points the following game and not dwell on this defeat. Tonight were at home and should make life a lot more difficult for the opposition than we did Saturday now the voodoo curse has been lifted with our first win on the new ground coming last game of the previous season.

I hate to start the column with negatives because there were too many of them last season so I want to quickly move onto the positives the gaffer has strengthened the areas where we were weak last season and brought in some really classy players like David Bell and Hally and these are guys that can go and win you games if we play in the right way to their strengths. Last season we lacked a bit of creative play somebody to take the game away from the opposition and those guys have got all these qualities in abundance so I'm excited to see how they perform this year.

This season we'll be looking to play a better brand of football something the fans can relate to and get behind the team. I think being down there last year the players were nervous which caused us to play some wayward long balls at times losing possession to easily but with a new season and new aspirations ahead with a much more relaxed approach I'm hoping we can play some good exciting football.

Thanks for your support as always and thank heavens football is back because through the highs and lows let's be honest we can't live without it! Enjoy the season ahead!

2015 TREATMENT TABLETABLE NEW ! the latest in ball technology... Good Evening and welcome back after the off-season and pre-season. Tonight is the first home game back for the season, and as you are probably aware, we have already had our share of injuries so far.

Jordan had a very hard session with me last Tuesday, trained on Thursday and he started in SPECTRAL INTENT ELITE Saturday's game reporting no pain or discomfort which is great news. Both Nathan and Jordan were out for 22 days, with Nathan training on Thursday and featuring in Saturday's game, only to very unfortunately injure this time what we think is his medial knee ligament going by the assessment after he came off. A partial smoking ban is to be introduced at the Zeeco stadium for the coming season.

A motion was put forward at this years shareholders annual general meeting for a complete ban within the stadium. This was rejected by the shareholders at that meeting.

The board of directors have decided to introduce a partial ban on smoking at the Zeeco in all areas between (and including) the main stand and the terrace stand. This ban will take immediate effect and includes the use of electronic smoking products.

The ban will cover all matches held at the Zeeco stadium and comes into effect immediately. It is intended that the club will poll supporters in early 2016 to gauge opinion on whether this should be a permanent decision.

EOEKS2013.indd 42 09/07/2013 10:40:02 LEAGUE League A WARM ROUND-UPRound-Up The EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's top flight got underway for the 2015-16 season on Saturday with Nantwich WELCOME Town take top billing by beating Stamford AFC 6-3 at the Weaver Stadium. It was a strange game that saw the visitors` race into a 2-0 lead with goals from Daniel Clements after 17 minutes and an Andy Hall penalty three minutes later. Josh Hancock reduced the deficit a minute before half-time and then Paul Hudson equalised eight minutes into the second period. But Gregg Smith restored the Daniels` lead in the 67th minute, only for Elliot Osborne to pull the Dabbers back on terms with another spot-kick four minutes later.

Sub Steve Jones gave Nantwich the lead for the first time nine minutes from time and then Liam Shotton made it a nap hand in the last minute of normal time. The drama wasn`t over yet as the home side were awarded the third penalty of the afternoon in injury- time and Osborne duly converted the spot-kick to make it 6-3.

Whitby Town made it a miserable long journey back to Worcestershire for new-look Stourbridge after condemning them to a 4-0 defeat at the Turnbull Ground.

Matty Waters gave the Seasiders` a great start with a sixth minute opener. Eight minutes after the break and Ross Gardner doubled Whitby`s lead and 11 minutes after that it was game over with Michael Roberts making it 3-0. A last-gasp James Brown effort put the icing on the cake for the hosts.

Two games, 13 goals, but there were none at Hurst Cross where Ashton United hosted Mickleover Sports, or at Moor Lane where fancied Salford City were held by Marine AFC in front of a good crowd of 518.

The Daniels lost on the opening day of the season for the first time since 2010 as they were well beaten by a good Nantwich side.

After having so many injuries, manager David Staff was able to recall Nathan Fox, Jordan Smith & Greg Smith to the squad following their respective lay-offs.

The home side started brightly and tested keeper Richard Knight with a couple of shots that he saved well.

Stamford took the lead against the run of play, after 17 minutes. Jon Challinor played an intelligent ball through to Dan Clements and his first time shot was parried by Terry Smith in the Nantwich goal. The ball only went as far as Nantwich right-back Josh Gordon and he could not prevent the ball hitting him and rolling into the net.

The Daniels doubled their lead three minutes later when Clements was fouled inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Andy Hall stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way.

Just after the half hour mark, Stamford were forced into an early change with Greg Smith replacing the injured Nathan Fox.

A minute before the break, Nantwich found a way back into the game. Josh Hancock picked the ball up and his shot was across Knight in the Daniels goal to make it 2-1 at half time.

In the second half, Nantwich continued to press and it was no surprise when they equalised through PJ Hudson who had only just come on as a substitute.

With over 20 minutes remaining, the Daniels retook the lead. Andy Hall chased a backpass to the Nantwich keeper. His hurried clearance only found Greg Smith who hit his first time shot low across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

The lead last only four minutes as the home side were awarded a penalty after Steve Jones was adjudged to have been fouled. Elliot Osbourne stepped up and sent Knight the wrong way.

With less than 10 minutes remaining, the home side took the lead for the first time in the game. Steve Jones heading home for them.

The Daniels chased the game to try and find a way back into it and were punished twice more in injury time.

First, debutant Edi Appleton was red carded for bringing down the player and giving away another penalty which was duly scored by Osbourne, then Liam Shotton finished the rout with a far post tap in. 34 KEEP UP TO DATE WITH DANIEL’S NEWS AT WWW.PITCHERO.COM/CLUBS/STAMFORDAFC FOLLOW THE DANIELS ON TWITTER @STAMFORDAFC1896
